East Texas Pump Jacks add Two More for ’09

The East Texas Pump Jacks bolstered their lineup with today’s announcement that the team has signed two more hitters for the 2009 season. The Pump Jacks added outfielder Mike Petello, a redshirt sophomore at Scottsdale Community College, and Kyle Frasard, a junior infielder from Texas Wesleyan.

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 8 Texas Longhorns demonstrated their offensive firepower with a season-high runs total to defeat the Texas State Bobcats, 12-2, in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk field.

The Longhorns were led offensively by freshman Kevin Lusson who went 4-for-4 and with a walk on the night and scored five runs. Lusson had two doubles and two RBI. All of these numbers were career-highs for the Austin native.

NCBWA Names National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 26, today. UCF junior second baseman Shane Brown and South Dakota State sophomore infielder Jesse Sawyer were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Northeastern sophomore left-handed pitcher J.T. Ross was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. CBB Visit: Northeastern at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE MASS- After a seven run first inning, Northeastern appeared well on its away to securing a midweek non conference win over Harvard and sweeping the brief two game season series between the two.

Three hours later, that was far from the case.

Harvard clawed away at the deficit before a ten run seventh inning catapulted them past the Huskies to a 16-13 win in a wild game that saw the two teams combine to use 34 players, issue 14 walks, ten wild pitches, and hit five batters. MLB Draft Shifts to Prime Time

The 2009 Major League Baseball Draft will be the first of it’s kind.  The commissioner’s office released a statement today saying this year’s draft will be held at 6 P.M. on June 9 at the studios of the MLB Network in Secaucus, New Jersey.

The first day will include the first three rounds plus two compensation rounds, totaling 111 picks.  Read the rest of this entry »

MINNEAPOLIS – The D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 poll was released Tuesday and Salisbury University dropped to No. 4 after the Sea Gulls spent the past two weeks at No. 2. The Sea Gulls (34-6) collected 518 total points.
