Northeastern wins 2009 Beanpot Title 5-3 over UMass(Jim Pierce/Northeastern University)

The College Baseball Blog made the trip to Fenway Park to take in the Beanpot Tournament on Monday afternoon. The Championship game featured Northeastern University against the University of Massachusetts. Northeastern entered the weekend on a two game winning streak as they took the final two games in their series against Dallas Baptist while UMass entered the game after taking two out of three games against St. Louis. Trevor Knight, James Madison

So., 1B/P, Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne’s-Belfield

Knight excelled with the bat and on the mound in JMU’s five games last week. At the plate, Knight batted .600 (15-25) with a double, two triples, four homers, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI. He drove in at least two runs in all five contests and hit .667 as the Dukes won two of three at VCU. Knight also made his first career pitching start on Sunday and allowed just three hits over six shutout innings while fanning six.

Dittman helped guide Illinois to a series win over Michigan and a victory over non-Big Ten foe Bradley last week. The sophomore hit .545 (6-for-11) over the four-game stretch with a slugging percentage of .909 and two multi-hit games. Dittman also recorded four runs and four RBI, advancing runners 75 percent of the time (6-for-8). Pair of SLC records fall as UTSA defeats Dallas Baptist, 4-3

Senior Michael Rockett went 3-for-4 on Monday and became the Southland Conference's all-time hit king (297).

SAN ANTONIO – It was a day for records at Roadrunner Field on Monday, as senior All-American Michael Rockett went 3-for-4 to become the Southland Conference’s all-time hit king, junior closer Zach Calhoon saved the 24th game of his career — also a new league standard — and UTSA held on for a 4-3 victory against Dallas Baptist.

FRISCO, Texas – UT Arlington center fielder Michael Choice has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Nicholls State right hander Tyler Minto has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the second time this season Choice has earned hitter of the week honors, while it is the first time Minto has been named the pitcher of the week.

IRVING, Texas—Dustin Dickerson (Baylor) and Chad Bettis (Texas Tech) have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the games of April 6-12, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes.

Senior outfielder Michael Tansey (Valley Stream, N.Y./Holy Trinity) received Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season, while freshman right-handed hurler Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif./Crespi Carmelite) received Pitcher of the Week honors, also for the second time in 2009.
