2009 USA National Team Trials Invitee List

usatraditionallogo(DURHAM, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Tuesday a list of 17 initial invitees to the 2009 USA Baseball National Team Trials to be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., June 15-24.

Ivy League Players of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dartmouth’s Mike Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) found his power stroke this week, blasting four home runs in the five games he started while driving in a team-high 11 runs. He cranked his first homer, a solo shot, against Vermont before sending three out of the park in the final three games at Yale. His three-run shot in the first game Sunday gave Dartmouth a quick 3-0 lead in the first, then he capped the series finale with a grand slam in the ninth. Read the rest of this entry »

Jim Foster of URI was recently featured in the Providence Journal about how he tries to keep all the potential College Baseball players in the state of Rhode Island home. Freshman Nick Amhed of UConn recently had to step into the big shoes of Michael Olt who went down with a wrist injury. The next article comes from The State in South Carolina which talks about a scary situation in the Auburn and South Carolina game on Friday night. Auburn pitcher Chris O’Neill took a line drive off of DeAngelo Mack’s bat in the forehead.  The last article features Indian River State College baseball team who have had a tough season but could put themselves into postseason play with victories over the next two days. WAC Players of the Week

wac_potw42009 DENVER, CO – Louisiana Tech outfielder Devon Dageford and left-handed pitcher Mike Jefferson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Apr. 13-19.

Dageford, a junior from Beatrice, Neb. (Beatrice HS), helped the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record last week, including a 4-0 mark against WAC foe Fresno State. Dageford batted .476 (10-for-21) with nine runs scored, nine RBI, three home runs, a triple, two walks and a stolen base. Dageford just missed achieving the cycle against Northwestern State as he went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, home run and a single, in order. He helped Louisiana Tech to an 11-9 victory over Fresno State as he hit a walk-off, two-run homer in game one of the series. Dageford also recorded 13 putouts without recording an error in right field.

SEC Weekend Recap (April 17-19)

With a weekend full of exciting baseball and some surprises, the SEC conference provided plenty of entertainment.  The spotlight series of the weekend was Arkansas at Georgia, and the two teams played three hard-fought games, with all three games decided by a total of four runs.  LSU entered the weekend with what looked like an easy weekend opponent in Tennessee, but the Volunteers marched into the new Alex Box Stadium and took two of three from the Bayou Bengals.  Read the rest of this entry »

  • Went 8-for-16 (.500) with three doubles and six RBIS during the week to help Vols go 4-1…Hit .455 during the Vols series victory at No. 1 LSU; including three RBI and one home run…Scored six runs in five games.
  • Two-run home run on Sunday against LSU helped the Vols earn 9-4 victory and the series…Hit pinch hit home run against Belmont on Tuesday night; three-run shot was his second of the year…Finished week with a 1.063 slugging percentage and .529 on-base percentage …In the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, during streak 12-for-21 (.571) .

CBB Web Gem of the Week

Kenny Burns of Rhode Island robs Mike Tamsin (Northeastern) of a sixth inning home run with an outstanding catch on April 20th. The catch did not help the Rams as J.T. Ross tossed a one hitter as the Huskies rolled 12-1 over the Rhode Island Rams.

MAC Players of the Week

Sophomore, Springfield, Ohio (Kenton Ridge)

Eaton led Miami to a weekend sweep of Buffalo in which the RedHawks scored 44 runs. The sophomore homered twice in game two of the series (game one of Saturday’s doubleheader) and scored four runs while driving in three runs.
