Willie Argo, Illinois
Fr., DH, Davenport, Iowa/Assumption
Argo led the Fighting Illini as they swept Penn State on the road and claimed a share of the Big Ten lead. The freshman went 8-for-12 with multiple hits in each game against the Nittany Lions, also posting eight RBI while scoring six runs and knocking five extra-base hits, including a multi-homer effort on Saturday. The designated hitter opened the weekend with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring and driving in three runs while falling a single shy of the cycle in Illinois’ 7-3 win. On Saturday, he again went 3-for-4, this time driving in five runs and scoring two on a pair of homers as his squad earned the 11-5 victory. In the series finale on Sunday, Argo went 2-for4 with a run as his team earned the sweep in a 9-2 win. In the three-game series, the freshman hit .667 with a .692 on-base percentage and a slugging average of 1.667, giving him an OPS of 2.359. The weekly honor is Argo’s first and the fourth for an Illinois hitter this year.
