SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Keith Cantwell (Tinton Falls, N.J.) (5-2) earned his team-leading third complete game and tied the team lead with his second complete game shutout after striking out six batters and allowing no walks and seven hits to defeat Georgetown, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the win, the Pirates picked up their third straight win improving their record to 18-19 overall and 8-9 in the BIG EAST.

The Pirates jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick, 3-0, lead. After two batters were hit by pitches and a single loaded the bases with one-out, sophomore Sean Gusrang (Burlington, N.J.) hit a two-run double down the left field line while classmate A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) plated senior Chris Affinito (East Brunswick, N.J.) with a groundout to shortstop.

Notre Dame 11 Louisville 5

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Notre Dame used home runs from senior Evan Sharpley, junior A.J. Pollock and sophomore Mick Doyle and solid starting pitching from sophomore Brian Dupra to race past Louisville, 11-5, in BIG EAST baseball action from Patterson Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Irish improve to 24-16 overall and 9-8 in the league, while the Cardinals drop to 29-12 and 12-5.

Dupra (Rochester, N.Y.) did not have his best stuff, but battled through 7.1 innings. The righty allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and improved to 5-4 on the season. Dupra walked just one and struck out a pair. He also benefitted from a pair of double play ground out by Louisville. Sophomore Will Hudgins (Richmond, Va.) registered his first career save. The rookie tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Hudgins fanned two and walked one.

Game 1: Rutgers 14 Pittsburgh 10
Game 2: Pittsburgh 8 Rutgers 6

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh split a pair of games with Rutgers University here today, April 25, at Trees Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Scarlet Knights rallied to score five runs in the top of the ninth in game one, going on to win 14-10 in a game that featured six home runs between the two teams. The Panthers took an early lead in game two and held on for an 8-6 win.

Both teams combined for 38 runs and 54 hits in the double-dip at Trees Field, blasting 10 home runs as the day went on.

Chris Sedon and Kevan Smith led the Panthers (21-14, 8-9 Big East) from the plate. Sedon hit his 12th home run of the season in game one and added his 13th in the first inning of game two, finishing the day 6-for-11 with five RBI. Smith extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 3-for-5 with two RBI in game one and 2-for-3 in game two.

St. Johns 8 Uconn 7

STORRS, Conn. – St. John’s rallied from a 6-4 sixth-inning deficit to defeat UConn, 8-7, in the second game of the three-game set. Brian Kemp, Jimmy Parque, Matt Wessinger and Carlos Del Rosario had two hits apiece to lead St. John’s (23-14, 11-6). Tim Morris added a home run, while Joe Witkowski added an RBI triple. Nick Luisi (3-2) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings and added three strikeouts to earn the win in relief. Peter Fatse was 3-for-4 with a home run to pace UConn (22-19, 8-9).

Kemp doubled just inside the first base line on the first pitch of the game, but was stranded on second base as starter Elliot Glynn retired the next three batters.

St. John’s took a 1-0 lead in the second. After Joe Panik drew a four-pitch walk to open the frame, Wessinger singled through the left side. Witkowski then reached on an error to load the bases before Gino Matias put the Red Storm on the board with a sacrifice fly into left field. Kemp reloaded the bases with an infield single, his second hit in two at-bats, but Glynn retired Parque to end the frame.

Cincinnati 9 Villanova 8 (10 innings)

CINCINNATI – Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the 10th inning, back-to-back solo home runs by senior Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla./Newberry) and junior Lance Durham (Forest Park, Ohio/Roger Bacon) capped off a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over Villanova for the University of Cincinnati baseball team in the second game of a three-game set Saturday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium. Cincinnati (21-18; 9-8 BIG EAST) was down to its last strike when Spina hit his 14th home run of the season over the left field fence that tied the game at eight, before Durham lined a three balls, one strike fastball over the right field fence for the walk-off win.

Senior Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) improved to 4-1 on the season giving up two hits and one earned run in 2.1 innings of relief.

South Florida 11 West Virginia 2

TAMPA – The first place University of South Florida defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 11-2 on Saturday night in front of the biggest crowd of the season, to take a two game lead in the BIG EAST.

The win, coupled with a Louisville loss to Notre Dame, gave the Bulls a two-game advantage over the second place Cardinals, and a three game lead over visiting West Virginia.

1472 fans packed into Red McEwen Field for Game Two of the series, the most for a USF baseball game this season, breaking the 1294 that attended the game against Oklahoma on March 14.
