AUSTIN, Texas – A.J. Morris threw his second complete game of the season while setting the Kansas State single-season wins record as the Wildcats topped No. 2 Texas, 4-2, Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Kansas State trailed 2-0 after five innings of play but scored four unanswered runs as it moved to 30-11 overall and 9-7 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats became just the 12th team in school history to reach the 30-win plateau. Texas fell to 29-7 overall and 12-7 in conference play.

Morris, who improved his record to 10-0, broke the Kansas State single-season school record held by four different players. The right-hander, who allowed just one earned run, recorded the victory in a career-high 141-pitch outing.

The Humble, Texas, product, who also threw a complete game in his home state at Baylor four weeks ago, allowed eight hits but continually worked out of jams. Morris, who walked two and struck out five, was uncharacteristically inconsistent in the first four innings as Texas put up two runs on five hits. However, Morris settled down the rest of the way, throwing five scoreless innings and allowing just two hits en route to the win.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Oklahoma State scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and opened its series against 16th-ranked Texas A&M with a 4-1 win Friday night at Olsen Field

The win was the fourth in a row for the 25th-ranked Cowboys, who improved to 28-15 overall and 6-9 in Big 12 Conference play. OSU also became the first Big 12 team to defeat Texas A&M on its home field this season after the Aggies entered the game with a perfect 8-0 mark.

After a classic pitcher’s duel between OSU’s Andrew Oliver and TAMU’s Brooks Raley, the game was tied 1-1 entering the ninth inning. But Alex Wilson came on in relief of Raley, and the Cowboys promptly took advantage.

Kevin David opened the ninth with a single, and Neil Medchill followed with a double to center field to put Cowboys on second and third with no outs.

After Wilson uncorked a wild pitch to plate David with the go-ahead run, Tyrone Hambly delivered an RBI single to make the score 3-1. Hambly advanced to third on a groundout and another wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mark Ginther brought home OSU’s final run of the night.

Lawrence, Kan. — Jake Mort and DJ Belfonte drove in three runs apiece, while Casey Hauptman tossed 5.1 innings of shutout relief, lifting Nebraska to an 11-4 victory over Kansas Friday night.

The Huskers (19-21-1, 5-14 Big 12) overcame an early 4-0 deficit with 11 unanswered runs, taking the lead for good with six runs in the fourth against KU starter Shaeffer Hall. Mort keyed the outburst with a three-run homer to left center, as he matched his season high in RBIs. Belfonte had two hits and drove in a season-high three runs, while shortstop Ben Kline tied a season high with three hits to pace a 13-hit attack for the Huskers.

While the bats broke the game open, Hauptman turned in a dominant relief effort, allowing only one hit the final 5.1 innings, as he faced the minimum after entering the game in the fourth.

With NU clinging to a 6-4 lead, the sophomore right-hander struck out Buck Afenir to squelch a fourth-inning rally after KU had runners on the corners. Robby Price opened the seventh with a single to break the string of seven straight by Hauptman, but was quickly erased as Brian Heere grounded into a double play. Hauptman (3-2) retired the final eight hitters he faced, needing only 46 pitches over 5.1 innings of work.
