Cincinnati 9 St. John’s 4

QUEENS, N.Y. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team used seven runs in the first four innings to knock off St. John’s, 9-4, in the series finale Sunday at Jack Kaiser Stadium. UC evens its record at 18-18 (7-8 BIG EAST) while the Red Storm fall to 20-14 (9-6).

Lance Durham was 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Kiley Jones was 3-for-5 with three RBI.

The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After retiring the first two batters, St. John’s starter Kevin Kilpatrick allowed singles to both Durham and Justin Riddell before allowing a bloop RBI single to Jones.

Cincinnati added two runs in the second on four singles. Following back-to-back singles by Chris Peters and Jimmy Jacquot, Kilpatrick walked T.J. Jones to load the bases. Consecutive RBI singles by Mike Spina and Durham gave the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.

Georgetown 5 UConn 2

Washington, D.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team received solid pitching performances from senior Jimmy Saris (Great Falls, Va./Langley) and sophomore Tommy Isaacs (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles).during a 5-2 win at UConn this afternoon. Saris struck out six batters over six innings to earn his team-leading third win of the season and Isaacs earned his first career save in a GU uniform, allowing no runs and only two hits in three innings of relief.

After falling behind, the Hoyas took the lead in the third. Kelly Muir (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) walked and Andy Lentz (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) reached on a fielder’s- choice bunt. With two on, Chip Malt (Boston, Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols) laid down a sacrifice bunt and pushed the runners to second and third. Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was able to bring them both home as he hit his first triple of the season down the left-field line for a 2-1 lead.

Louisville 4 Rutgers 3 (14 innings)

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Andrew Clark’s RBI single in the 14th inning scored Josh Richmond for the winning run, while Dean Kiekhefer pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the victory as the Louisville Cardinals completed their second straight BIG EAST series sweep with a 4-3 win at Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at Bainton Field.

Louisville improved to 6-0 in extra-inning games this season, 11-4 in the BIG EAST and 27-10 overall with the win, which capped the third series sweep overall this season. The Cards are tied for second with West Virginia in the BIG EAST standings, just one game behind league-leading USF, with four weeks left in the regular-season.

Pittsburgh 5 Seton Hall 4

PITTSBURGH – With its 5-4 win today over Seton Hall University, the University of Pittsburgh baseball team earned their first Big East Conference series sweep since the 2007 season. Chris Sedon went yard for the 11th time this season and David Kaye evened his record to 2-2 on the year with five and two-thirds strong innings.

The Pirates (15-19, 6-9 Big East) threatened in the top half of the ninth, putting runners on first and second after back-to-back singles. Joe Leonard was able to get Bobby Migliazza to ground into the game-ending six-four-three double play, giving the Panthers (20-13, 7-8 Big East) their third straight win.

Sedon’s team-leading 11th home run of season moved him into 12th place on the single-season home run list and gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The junior transfer finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored on the day.

Seton Hall Recap

South Florida 6 Villanova 4

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The USF baseball team improved 24-14 on the season with a 6-4 win at Villanova on Sunday afternoon. The win moved the Bulls to 12-3 in conference play and 6-3 on the road this season while they took at 5-4 edge in the Villanova series under head coach Lelo Prado. Villanova dropped to 18-18 on the season and 4-11 in conference play with the loss.

Freshman Sam Mende led the “Green & Gold” offensively, going 2-4 at the plate with a double while Todd Brazeal was 2-5 with a double and a pair of RBI. Peter Brotons also went 2-5 at the plate knocking in one run.

Starting pitcher Shawn Sanford earned the win for the Bulls on the mound, retiring the Wildcats in order on three separate occasions. Sanford gave up seven hits and two earned runs through 7.1 innings of work while striking out four to earn his third victory of the season.
