Warner defeats Florida Southern

dan_smithsmallThe Warner Royals, ranked #13 in the NAIA, defeated the Florida Southern Moccasins 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Florida Southern is ranked #1 in Division II.

The Royals were led by 1B Dan Smith of Lake Monmorah, Australia. He was 2-5 with a home run and two RBI. DH Jason Griffin also hit a two-run home run for the Royals. This is the second time this season that a number-one-ranked Division II team was defeated by an NAIA team. Last month, LSU-Shreveport, ranked #4 at the time, defeated Southern Arkansas. (Story here.) LSU-Shreveport has since slipped to #20.

Warner University is located in Lake Wales, FL. The Royals lead Embry-Riddle by 1 1/2 games in the Sun Conference.
