College Baseball Scores for April 6th

Monday is always a slow night of College Baseball and this week was no exception as only three games took place. Dallas Baptist knocked off Oral Roberts 5-4 while Washington State picked up a 12-8 victory over BYU and lastly Gonzaga beat regional rival Washington 7-3. Continue reading

SEC Weekend Recap

All eyes were on Athens, with the LSU Tigers making the trip to play the Georgia Bulldogs in a battle of top-five teams.  The series was as competitive as everyone thought it would be, and LSU came out on top with a 2-1 series victory to improve to 8-4 in conference play.  Georgia is also now 8-4 in SEC play and leads Florida, who lost two of three at Vanderbilt last weekend, by one game in the standings.  Arkansas is still on top of the SEC West and overall standings with a 10-2 conference mark after taking two of three on the road at South Carolina.  Ole Miss dominated Kentucky at home in a three-game sweep to improve to 8-4 in league play and put themselves in a tie with LSU for second in the SEC West.  Auburn improved their SEC record to 6-6 by taking two of three from Mississippi State in Starksville.  Alabama swept Tennessee to get back to .500 in league play, while the Volunteers fell to a lowly 1-11 in SEC play.

Childers batted .522 (12-23) with two homers, six runs scored and 11 RBI in Georgia State’s six games. The senior had back-to-back three-hit games in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Delaware, and tied a school-record by driving in eight runs in the opener.

Norfolk State second basemen Anselmo Cantu earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Dan Perkins and Bethune-Cookman’s Eric Thomas were named the Co-Pitchers of the Week, while B-CU’s Peter O’Brien earned Rookie of the Week accolades. Continue reading

Brett Nommensen, OF • Sr., 5-10, 190 • Fox Grove, Ill. • Eastern Illinois
Nommensen earned his second OVC Player of the Week honor of the season after hitting .769 (10-of-13) with seven runs scored, two dobules, three home runs and nine RBI in four Eastern Illinois wins last week. He reached base safely in 14 of his 17 plate appearances during the week, including in each of his first 13 at-bats of the week. He homered twice in a 12-8 road win over Saint Louis, including leading off the game with a home run for the fourth time this season. Continue reading

DENVER, CO – Nevada catcher Travis Simas and Hawai‘i right-handed pitcher Jayson Kramer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Mar. 30-Apr. 5.

Simas, a senior from Elk Grove, Calif. (Sheldon HS/San Joaquin Delta College), hit .600 in helping the Wolf Pack to three conference wins over Louisiana Tech last week. Simas went 9-for-15 at the plate with eight runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI. He also picked off his WAC-leading ninth and 10th runners of the season and caught two of the four base stealers. In the WAC series at Louisiana Tech, Simas hit .692 (9-for-15). He recorded a 1.538 slugging percentage in WAC games after totaling 20 bases. He collected multiple hits in three of his four games at Louisiana Tech, including a career-high four the series finale.

IRVING, Texas—Shaver Hansen (Baylor) and T.J. Walz (Kansas) have been tabbed Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the games of March 30-April 5, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes.
