Here is your Ivy League Recap for April 5th.

Game 1: Brown 9 Columbia 7 (7 innings)
Game 2: Brown 12 Columbia 11

Providence, R.I. – Brown took a pair of tight games against Ivy rival Columbia on Sunday afternoon, as Bruno’s bats continued to swing well. Sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, N.Y.) blasted a two-run walk-off home run to center field in the second game, bringing the fans to their feet and the team streaming out onto the field as the Bears ran their league win streak to six consecutive games. With the victory, Brown improves to 11-12-1 overall and 7-1 in Ivy League play.

In the opener, Columbia struck first, scoring three runs on a double in the first inning. The Bears looked to be in trouble early, as they were unable to answer, and saw the visitors score twice more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. However, after a pair of singles to lead off the bottom of the second, senior Robert Papenhause (Hillsborough, CA) hit a three-run home run, his fourth of the weekend, trimming the margin to two.

Game 1: Dartmouth 13 Cornell 8 (7 innings)
Game 2: Dartmouth 14 Cornell 11

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth won both ends of a doubleheader against the visiting Cornell Big Red (4-16, 2-6 Ivy) on Sunday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park, 13-8 and 14-11, to stretch its winning streak to nine games while improving to 10-9 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the Ivy League. This is the best start in conference play for the Big Green ever, besting the 1937 squad that began the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League (EIBL) by winning its first seven contests.

The first victory of the day was the 200th in conference play for Dartmouth head coach Bob Whalen, and his record now stands at 201-173 in the EIBL and Ivy, which began sponsoring baseball in 1993. Also, sophomore reliever Ryan Smith (Greenlawn, N.Y.) saved both ends of the doubleheader, giving him seven on the season to equal the record he set last year and tie the career mark of 14.

Freshman Joe Sclafani (Palm City, Fla.) homered in each game this afternoon from opposite sides of the plate, his first two collegiate home runs. He finished the day 4-for-7 with a double, two homers, five runs and five RBIs out of the lead-off slot.

Game 2: Yale 7 Penn 4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team was just two outs away from dropping game one of Sunday’s doubleheader against Penn, but junior first baseman Trygg Larsson-Danforth swatted a walk-off, two-run home run to propel the Bulldogs to victory and an eventual sweep of the Quakers. The Elis got two home runs from Larsson-Danforth and one from sophomore outfielder Andrew Kolmar on the afternoon.

With the sweep, Yale improves to 8-12 overall and evens its Ivy League record at 4-4. The wins mark the first doubleheader sweep for the Bulldogs, as well as the first consecutive victories overall and the first victories at Yale Field this season. Penn falls to 10-16 overall and remains winless at 0-8 in the Ivy League.

Game 1: Princeton 3 Harvard 1 (7 innings)
Game 2: Harvard 13 Princeton 12 (17 innings)

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tom Stack-Babich collected his second walk-off hit of the weekend as his 17th inning liner to the wall in right field gave Harvard a 13-12 victory over Princeton in a marathon game at O’Donnell Field. The nightcap victory earned the Crimson a split after Princeton had taken the first game by a score of 3-1 in a game that lasted just 1:35.

The nightcap was considerably different as a total of 10 pitchers threw a combined 513 pitches. There were 52 combined hits and six double plays turned.

Princeton (9-13, 2-6 Ivy) took a 12-10 run in the top of the 17th inning when a throwing error paved the way to two unearned runs. As it has throughout the weekend, Harvard (7-18, 5-3 Ivy) answered with its back to the wall.
