#7 Miami (FL) 14 #19 Florida State 8

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Harold Martinez and Yasmani Grandal each hit grand slam homers and starter Iden Nazario struck out six in six innings of work as No. 7 Miami beat No. 23 Florida State, 14-8, Sunday afternoon in front of 3,209 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

The 14 runs scored by the `Canes on Sunday was the most UM has put up against FSU since winning 17-11 on April 10, 2004 in Tallahassee.

After FSU plated a run in the top half of the first, the Hurricanes put up five runs in the bottom of the frame and another five in the second to put the game out of reach early on.

Clemson, who won the series 2-1, improved to 20-10 overall and 9-6 in the ACC, while the Blue Devils dropped to 20-11 overall and 7-8 in ACC play. Boston College 11 NC State 10

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team faced a 10-2 deficit in the fifth inning but scored nine unanswered runs – capped by a solo homer from junior Tony Sanchez in the eighth – to come back and stun NC State, 11-10, Sunday afternoon at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

Down 10-9 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, sophomore Matt Hamlet chopped a grounder to the third baseman who threw it way over the first baseman’s head, allowing Hamlet to get to second. The next pitch was a wild one and went all the way to the backstop. The catcher couldn’t find it, though, and Hamlet scored all the way from second to tie the game.

Then during the same at-bat, Sanchez blasted a home run on a full count to center give BC the dramatic game-winning run.

Virginia Tech 3 Wake Forest 2

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore starting pitcher Justin Wright’s second career complete game, combined with senior Klint Reed’s game-winning home run in the eighth inning, lifted the Virginia Tech baseball team to a 3-2 win over visiting Wake Forest on Sunday at English Field.

Wright’s nine innings pitched was the longest outing for a Tech pitcher this season, and his eight strikeouts were one shy of his career high. The Chesterfield, Va., native struck out nine batters against Bucknell earlier this season, and his other complete game came against top-ranked Miami last May. In this one, he scattered eight hits and didn’t issue a walk as he improved his record to 2-1.

Reed’s first home run of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for the Hokies, as he delivered it in bottom of the eighth with the game knotted at two. He was the first batter up for the Hokies in the decisive frame, and he lined the solo shot just over the left field fence to lift the Hokies to 17-12 overall and 4-10 in the ACC. Wake Forest slipped to 17-12, with a 5-10 conference mark.
