The 3rd-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader against LeTourneau, 5-1 and 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field.

The victory over the YellowJackets in game two gave Patriot head coach James Vilade his 300th career coaching win. Vilade now has a career record of 300-99 and a career win percentage of 75.2 percent.

In game one, the Patriots (27-6, 10-2) had no trouble hitting the ball as they came up with eight hits in the game.

UT Tyler opened the game with two runs in the first inning, and then added three more in the fifth to cap the scoring in the seven-inning affair.

Seniors Kendall Fox (Carrollton, Texas) and Jeremy Harding (Houston, Texas) each went a perfect 2-for-2 in the game. Fox added two runs and two walks to his total, while Harding scored once, batted in two runs and had a sacrifice hit.

Senior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) pitched the entire game for the Patriots and allowed just one run off of six hits while fanning 12 batters. The win moved Holland to 7-3 on the season.

In game two, the Patriots reeled off 12 hits as they picked up their fourth series sweep of the season.

UT Tyler scored in five different innings and held LeTourneau (10-16, 3-9) scoreless until the fifth inning.

Senior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) led the Patriots by going 3-for-5 in game two with one run and two RBIs.

Senior Blake Booher allowed just one run and three hits as he went five innings to pick up the win and advance to 7-0 on the season.

The Patriots will return to Irwin Field on Tuesday night when they host the University of Dallas in non-conference action at 6 p.m.
