This is the Big 12 Recap for Friday as all 10 Team were in action tonight as Kansas State took 2 tonight in Lincoln, Nebraska, Texas Tech holds on to win 4-3 over A&M in Lubbock, Baylor scores 3 in the top of the 9th to take the opening game against Kansas, In a pitcher duel in Columbia Missouri, Andrew Doyle(OU) outlast Kyle Gibson 2-1, behind 3 home runs Texas takes game 1 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, 7-2.
#9 Texas 7 #15 Oklahoma State 2
STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 9 Texas Longhorns got a season-high three home runs, including two by Connor Rowe, to beat the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys in Big 12 Conference baseball action at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium on Friday evening.
The Longhorns drew first blood with five runs in the top of the second inning. The uprising was highlight by UTÂ’s first back-to-back home runs of the season. With two outs, Kevin Keyes hit a double to the gap in right centerfield and David Hernandez walked to set up a three-run dinger by Michael Torres over the leftfield fence. Rowe followed with a solo blast in the same spot to inflate the cushion to 4-0. The rally was capped off by a single through the left side of the infield by Travis Tucker and an RBI double off the wall in left centerfield by Brandon Loy to stake the Horns to a 5-0 lead.
The CowboysÂ’ broke their scoring seal in the bottom of the fourth inning. Neil Medchill roped a leadoff single to centerfield, moved to second on a walk by Dean Green, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tyrone Hambly and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tom Belza to trim the lead to 5-1.
Oklahoma State shaved another run off the lead in the seventh. With two outs, Doug Kroll hit a single which was misplayed by LonghornsÂ’ leftfielder Tant Shepherd for an error. With Kroll at second, Randy McCurry laced a pinch-hit single through the left side of the infield to score the run and cut the lead to 5-2.
#10 Oklahoma 2 Missouri 1
COLUMBIA, Mo. — The 1,097 fans on hand at Taylor Stadium left the ball game with no doubt that it was Friday night in the Big 12, as No. 10 Oklahoma topped Missouri 2-1 in a pitchers’ dual.
OU starter Andrew Doyle battled Missouri starter Kyle Gibson, considered by some outlets as the top Big 12 pitching prospect in the upcoming draft, for eight innings during Friday’s Big 12 series opener. While Gibson went the distance and struck out 15 batters, Doyle held the Tigers hitless for four frames, and scoreless until the sixth.
The Sooners’ hurler turned in his longest outing of the season with eight innings pitched and struck out six while allowing four hits. Doyle improved to 4-2 while Gibson dropped to 4-3 after surrendering two runs off six hits. Ryan Duke pitched a perfect ninth to record his sixth save of the season.
#11 Baylor 8 at Kansas 6
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Dustin Dickerson’s two-run single through the right side of a drawn-in infield broke a 6-6 tie and gave No. 7 Baylor an 8-6 victory over Kansas in Friday night’s Big 12 Conference series opener at Hoglund Ballpark. Baylor (19-7, 6-4) posted its sixth last-at-bat victory of the season. Kansas (17-11, 3-4) suffered its first loss at home in 15 games this season.
Baylor trailed 6-5 entering the ninth, but scored three runs on three hits and a pair of Kansas errors. Ben Booker opened the frame with a single just inside the third-base line and took second when Kansas shortstop David Narodowski misplayed the ball in foul territory. Kenton Gedwed followed with a pinch-hit RBI single up the middle; it was Gedwed’s first career hit in a Big 12 game.
Don Lambert then lay down a sacrifice bunt, on which KU pitcher Paul Smyth tried to get pinch-runner Brooks Pinckard at second. However, Smyth’s throw sailed into right-center, putting runners at second and third with no outs. Two batters later, Dickerson lined a 2-2 Smyth offering between two diving fielders on the right side of the infield for a one-out single. The hit extended Dickerson’s hitting streak to 12 games, a career-long streak.
Texas Tech 4 #13 Texas A&M 3
LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore right-hander Chad Bettis induced Kevin Gonzalez into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to give the Texas Tech Red Raiders a 4-3 win over No. 11 Texas A&M on Friday night in the series opener at Dan Law Field.
The win moves Texas Tech back to even in the Big 12 Conference as they stand at 5-5 in league play and 13-18 overall. Texas A&M, who entered the series in a first place tie in the league standings, falls to 6-4 in the Big 12 and to 19-10 on the year.
Kansas State 15 at Nebraska 1

LINCOLN, Neb. – Kansas State was able to accomplish a feat in just one day that it hadn’t been able to do in 35 years, which was win a series against Nebraska in Lincoln, as the Wildcats swept Nebraska in a Friday doubleheader by scores of 15-1 and 9-3, at Hawks Field.
The doubleheader sweep gave K-State its first Big 12 series win of the season and moved the Wildcats to 23-8 overall, while they evened their conference record at 4-4. Nebraska fell to 16-13-1 and 4-7 in conference play.
Kansas State won its first series in Lincoln since 1974 when the Cats swept NU by scores of 3-2, 7-5 and 6-4. The Wildcats have now won three-straight games in Lincoln, its longest streak since winning four-straight with the 1974 sweep and a win in the first game in 1975.
The Wildcats combined for 24 runs on 27 hits in the two games, including five doubles and two triples. The K-State pitching staff was equally as stellar in the day-night twin-bill, limiting the Huskers to just four total runs on 16 hits, while the Cats forced Nebraska to strand 18 runners.
Kansas State’s 14-run victory in the afternoon game was the largest margin of victory for the Wildcats against the Huskers since an 18-4 decision in 1942 in Lincoln. Kansas State also hit two triples in the first contest, the second-straight Friday the Cats hit two triples in a game.
