CBB Players of the Week

The College Baseball Blog for the second straight year will be naming a single Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week. This award is selected by a vote on by the writers of The College Baseball Blog. This week we honor Georgia’s Rich Poythress as our Player of the Week while Cody Wheeler of Coastal Carolina picked up our Pitcher of the Week award.

Georgia’s Rich Poythress had a batting average of .615 (8 for 13) while hitting five homers and driving in 12 runs. The offensive explosion by Poythress led the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record last week with a sweep over Tennessee and losing a mid-week game against Wright State.

Cody Wheeler started Coastal Carolina’s series opener on Thursday where he pitched a complete game no-hitter against the Hawaii Warriors. Wheeler struck out 10 while only facing a total of 28 batters in the game. The most impressive thing was that it only took him 118 pitches.
