CAA: Georgia State rolls over No. 3 Georgia Tech

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A trio of Ohio State pitchers, led by starter and winner Alex Wimmers (now 5-0), one-hit the No. 2 Miami Hurricanes and the Buckeye bats did more than enough to secure a 7-1 victory Tuesday before 1,755 fans at Alex Rodriguez Park. Ohio State, ranked 16th in the Collegiate Baseball poll, improves to 18-3 with the win while Miami, No. 2 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, falls to 18-5. SEATTLE - A ninth-inning sacrifice fly from DJ Crumlich broke a 13-13 tie as the No. 10 UC Irvine baseball team out-slugged Washington for a 17-13 win Tuesday night at Husky Ballpark.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 22, today. East Carolina junior designated hitter Kyle Roller was named National Hitter of the Week, while San Diego State’s junior right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named National Pitcher of the Week. After the opening weekend of Conference USA play, East Carolina is the lone unbeaten team. The Pirates continued their offensive explosion in a three-game sweep of UCF. Houston, Marshall and Rice each won two-of-three during the opening weekend of league play. CBB Visit: UCLA at USC on March 23rd

grant-greenLOS ANGELES – Heated rivals Japan and Korea met Monday night at Dodger Stadium with the World Baseball Classic championship on the line.

But it wasn’t even the most important baseball game played in Los Angeles.

The city’s bragging rights were at stake a mere six miles away, as USC hosted archrival UCLA in the rubber match of a three-game set at Dedeaux Field. The Bruins had won Saturday’s contest 14-4, while the Trojans responded with a 5-1 Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »
