CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Zach Von Tersch worked five solid innings, and No. 3 Georgia Tech (18-3, 8-1 ACC) smacked three home runs to down No. 2 Miami (19-7, 7-4 ACC), 6-4, Saturday night at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Five of Tech’s six runs came off homers by Derek Dietrich, Luke Murton and Tony Plagman, and the Yellow Jackets have hit eight home runs in the series against the Hurricanes. Seventeen of Tech’s 19 runs this weekend have come off the long ball. Read the rest of this entry »

Game 2: Cornell 8 Brown 4

Ithaca, N.Y. – Brown split with Cornell on Saturday afternoon, going 1-1 to open Ivy League play. Sophomore designated hitter Pete Greskoff (Paoli, PA) had the big hit for the Bears in the opener, coming through with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth. PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Jaren Matthews (Teaneck, N.J.) broke a scoreless tie with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth in game one and freshman Charlie Law (Mainland, N.J.) posted 10 strikeouts to hold Cincinnati in check while Luis Feliz (New Brunswick, N.J.) put Rutgers ahead with a fifth-inning grand slam in game two as the Scarlet Knights swept a doubleheader from the Bearcats Saturday afternoon at Bainton Field. LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell smashed five home runs and received a pair of strong pitching performances as it swept a baseball doubleheader from Army Saturday at Depew Field. The Bison won game one 2-1 behind a complete game five-hitter from Trey Frahler (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and a two-run home run by Andrew Loucks (Mississauga, Ontario/Appleby College). In game two, Ben Yoder (Belleville, Pa./Indian Valley) hit two home runs and Chris Yamaguchi (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) limited the Black Knights to two runs on eight hits in eight innings to improve to 4-0 this season as Bucknell triumphed 18-2. Big 12 Recap for 3-28-09

Here is the recap on the Big 12 weekend series that took place today. The Series that are in Norman and Stillwater Oklahoma have been postpone and will begin on Sunday with doubleheaders involving Oklahoma-Nebraska and Oklahoma State-Missouri. I went to watch the 2nd game of the Texas Tech and Texas series-story up in a few minutes.

McNeese State and Central Arkansas split a Southland Conference twinbill here Saturday, collecting almost 50 hits between them.

McNeese won the first game 10-5 with the use of three home runs while Central Arkansas took the second, slamming out 17 hits.

Salisbury pitching leads to sweep of Seahawks, snaps losing skid

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 19 Salisbury University baseball team had three pitchers combine to throw 14 shutout innings as the Sea Gulls swept St. Mary’s (Md.) College 3-0 and 4-0 in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Field. Junior Chad Wolfe blanked the Seahawks with a complete game shutout in the opener while junior Kyle Starr and freshman Bill Morton followed suit with a shutout of their own in the second game.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team battled intense wind gusts during a doubleheader split with Newman Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers fell in game one, 3-2, and won the second contest, 11-0.

Cal-Washington State Recap

Katie Dowd of Daily Cal has an excellent recap of the Cal-Washingston State game on Friday afternoon. The Cougars walked away with a hard fought 8-7 victory over the Bears. Here is your SEC recap for Friday, March 27.  Friday’s game between South Carolina and Kentucky was postponed due to field conditions and will be made up as part of a Saturday doubleheader.  The game between Arkansas and Mississippi State was suspended in the bottom of the 5th inning and will be completed before the start of the second game of the series tomorrow.  The other four conference games were completed as scheduled.
