Summit League Players of the Week

Metcalf collects Player of the Week honors after belting three home runs in two games against Kansas last week. The senior also had a 1.273 slugging percentage, four runs and four RBI, along with extending his hitting streak to nine games. His .455 average on the week raised his average on the season to .328. MAC Announces Baseball Players & Pitchers of the Week

Nurre led Miami to a 4-1 week, including the RedHawks’ first series sweep since April 27-29, 2007. Miami outscored its opponents 55-24 over the five-game week. Nurre was 11-for-20 for the week (.550) and recorded 10 runs and six RBIs while drilling six extra-base hits (four doubles and two home runs). He recorded an impressive 1.050 slugging percentage. Big Ten Players of the Week

Goebbert led Northwestern to a series split with Purdue over the weekend, hitting .625 and slugging 1.000 while reaching base at a .700 clip to combine for an OPS of 1.700. In the Wildcats’ Big Ten opener on Friday, the junior went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run-scoring double in a narrow 4-3 loss. Goebbert led the NU offense on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI on two doubles and a walk as the Wildcats exploded for a 13-4 victory. Northwestern scored in each of the five innings that Goebbert came to the plate in Saturday’s game, and his weekend performance raised his batting average 40 points. Read the rest of this entry »

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston sophomore third baseman Cole Rakar and Elon junior catcher Mike Melillo have been named the Southern Conference’s Baseball Co-Players of the Week for all games from March 23-29. East Carolina’s Brad Mincey is the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after he picked up two victories for the first place Pirates during last week’s action. The Hitter of the Week honor is being shared by Southern Miss SS Brian Dozier and UAB 1B Luke Stewart after both players registered big weekends at the plate in leading their teams to series sweeps. Conference USA Weekend Roundup

Southern Miss was the only team to post a series sweep in Conference USA play this weekend as the Golden Eagles took three in a row at UCF. After posting a 6-2 win in the opener on Friday, the Golden Eagles broke out the bats in a big way during a Saturday doubleheader, scoring 45 total runs. The 26 runs scored in game one established a new USM school record. Senior SS Brian Dozier led the way in the twin-bill, combining to go six-for-nine with two home runs, seven runs, nine RBI, 12 total bases, two walks and a sacrifice fly. Citadel’s Fred Jordan wins 600th game

The Citadel’s Fred Jordan picked up his 600th victory on Sunday in a 4-1 victory over the Air Force Falcons. Jordan is currently in his 18th season in charge of the Bulldog program and is the fastest coach in Southern Conference history to reach the 600 win plateau.
