This weekend we saw two bench clearing brawls take place with the Florida-Duquesne match-up having an incident on Friday night and UMass-Arizona got into it on Sunday afternoon. Both of these incidents were out of conference matchups and don’t have any history behind them. Since their isn’t any history between these squads, it makes it more disturbing. I will occasionally check in throughout the season on some random thoughts on the college baseball action that has taken place over the last few days.
What is the problem with Florida State? They have lost five out of their last six games with losses to North Florida, Jacksonville, Auburn, and Boston College (twice). None of those teams are going to be contenders for a College World Series title. Read the rest of this entry »

Mississippi College junior outfielder Bo Bell (Gulfport, MS / Miss. Gulf Coast CC) went 4-for-9 with two home runs, one double and six RBIs to pace a conference-opening series win over LeTourneau. Bell also walked twice, stole a base and scored two runs.

Johnson led the Illini to a series victory over No. 1 LSU over the weekend, batting .500 with a .750 slugging percentage over the three-game set. In Game 1 on Friday, the catcher hit the game-winning two-run home run in the top of the ninth to give Illinois the 3-1 victory.
