Centenary and Kansas State pull off Upset Wins

The Centenary College Baseball team picked up a 8-3 victory on Tuesday night over number 24 ranked Arkansas.  They received a great start from Boone Whiting who allowed five hits and three runs in 7.1 innings of work while two way player Brett Eibner struggled in his 1.2 inning start as he allowed three runs. The Kansas State Wildcats also picked up an upset by beating the Arizona State Sun Devils 6-2. Jason King led the Wildcats offense by going 3 for 3 with a huge three run homer in the eigthth inning. CBB Players of the Week for March 11th

The College Baseball Blog for the second straight year will be naming a single Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week. This award is selected by a vote on by the writers of The College Baseball Blog. This week we honor Daniel Hill of Murray State as our Player of the Week and for the first time ever we have Co-Pitchers of the Week with Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State and Pat Lehman of George Washington sharing the honors. Ouachita Baptist Baseball takes doubleheader from East Central

ARKADELPHIA – The 30th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University baseball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of East Central Tuesday afternoon as the Tigers won the opener, 5-3, and took the second game, 14-3, at Rab Rodgers Field.

In the opener, Jared Hershberger went six-plus strong innings to get the victory and improve to 3-0 on the year. He gave up three runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts. Patrick Lemmond earned the save, his fifth of the season.

St Edwards falls to Angelo State

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team took a one-run lead into the top of the ninth inning but they could not hang onto the lead and fell to #12 Angelo State, 11-5, Tuesday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

St. Edward’s (12-10) got on the board early in this bout with Angelo State (17-7). Center fielder Dylan Schuch led off the game with a single up the middle and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Daniel Rufini.

Victoria Generals sign two more for ’09

(Victoria, Texas) The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League have announced that a local pitcher and an outfielder from Uvalde will joining the team for the summers’ schedule.

Logan Hull, a junior at Texas Lutheran University and graduate of Memorial High School in Victoria has agreed to pitch for the Generals in their inaugural season. At Texas Lutheran he entered the spring as the No. 1 starter. He is a former ASC West Preseason Pitcher of the Year (2008)

FRISCO, Texas – UTSA outfielder Jose Hernandez has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Central Arkansas right hander Jeremy Cloud has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

NCBWA/D3baseball.com Top 25 Week 3

MINNEAPOLIS – The D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll was released on March 10 and Salisbury University remains in the top spot for a third straight week.

Salisbury (14-1, 5-1 Capital Athletic Conference) received 19 first-place votes out of 25 and received 614 points. The Gulls have been ranked No. 1 since the week one poll that came out on February 24.

Rob Froio, Lafayette So., CF, Midlothian, Ill.

Froio gives Lafayette its third consecutive Player of the Week honoree after an outstanding weekend to help the Leopards to a four-game sweep at Maryland-Eastern Shore. Froio was nearly perfect in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, going 10-for-12 with six runs scored and seven RBI in the two games. He was 6-for-6 with six RBI and three runs in Lafayette’s 17-5 victory. Ivy League Players of the Week and Honor Roll (March 10th)

Princeton’s Brian Berkowitz (Marietta, Ga.) enjoyed a nice series against William & Mary over the weekend, pacing the Tigers from the plate. The junior outfielder was a menace at the plate, and finished six-for-13 (.462). Two the six hits were home runs, including a grand slam in the third game of the weekend.
