OSU’s David, MU’s Gibson Selected As Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas—Kevin David (Oklahoma State) and Kyle Gibson (Missouri) have earned the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for the games of March 9-15, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first conference weekly award for both student-athletes.

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State center fielder Chris Murrill has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Southeastern Louisiana right hander Ryan Collins has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Rice junior RHP Ryan Berry becomes the first player in Conference USA history to earn Pitcher of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks after he shut down No. 20 San Diego last Friday for this third straight nearly flawless outing. UAB had to battle rain all weekend, playing its series against Harvard in two different states, but in the end the Blazers had a four-game sweep of the Crimson and a six-game winning streak. The two clubs played a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday in Pensacola, Fla., while Sunday’s series finale was played in Vestavia, Ala., a suburb of Birmingham. BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 1 North Carolina pounded out 14 hits, including three each from Dustin Ackley, Mike Cavasinni and Levi Michael, en route to a 13-5 over Virginia Tech Sunday at English Field. The Tar Heels (14-2, 4-1 ACC) also got a grand slam from Mark Fleury and three RBI from Garrett Gore to sweep the rain-shortened series and claim their sixth straight win.
