The Oklahoma State Cowboys blew out the Western Illinois Leathernecks 30-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Oklahoma State coaching staff only made two substitutions in the starting lineup as they continued to pound on the Leathernecks with a 18-3 score after five innings. 2009 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced the official watch list for the 2009 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza. Forty-four catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 4, 2009. Read the rest of this entry »
UT-Tyler Tops UT Dallas in Non-Conference Action
The 4th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team bested American Southwest Conference foe Texas-Dallas, 8-6, on Tuesday night at Irwin Field in a non-conference match-up.
UT Tyler (19-4) jumped out an early lead by scoring three runs in the first, however UT Dallas (12-10) pulled within a run by scoring two in the top of the third.

The Rice baseball team got some solid pitching in surrendering just four hits and shortstop Rick Hague’s two-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Owls’ the lead for good on the way to a 6-3 victory over visiting No. 1 Texas before a rowdy, record-setting crowd of 6,193 Tuesday night at Reckling Park.

Southland Conference Recap 03-17-09

#9 LSU 2 Northwestern State 1
Sophomore Micah Gibbs drove in the game-winning run on a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead No. 5 LSU past Northwestern State, 2-1, Tuesday in Alex Box Stadium.
Coming in to pinch hit for first baseman Buzzy Haydel with one out and the bases loaded, Gibbs drilled a 2-2 offering into the gap in right center field to break open a 1-1 tie and bring senior Derek Helenihi home for the victory.

Salisbury no-hits Hilbert College

COCOA, Fla. – The No. 2 Salisbury University baseball team used six pitchers to combine for a no-hitter in a 24-0 shutout of Hilbert College on Tuesday morning. This is the Sea Gulls’ first of four Spring Break games in Cocoa, Fla.
