ACC Weekend Preview (March 20th-22nd)

The third weekend of ACC action kicks off this week with all twelve teams in action against conference foes. The North Carolina Tar Heels will host Duke, Miami (FL) heads to Virginia, Georgia Tech goes to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies, Clemson is at Florida State, Boston College is at Maryland, and finally NC State heads to Wake Forest. Big 12 Weekend Preview

Here is your Big 12 Weekend Preview for March 20th-22nd. All 10 conference teams are in action this weekend with the highlight being Texas AM heading to Missouri in the top series. Oklahoma and Kansas State are also matching up as both teams are pleasant surprises this season. No. 2 Salisbury defeats Nichols (MA) 17-9

COCOA, Fla. – Junior catcher Ryan Smith tallied a career-high nine RBIs as he smashed three home runs as the No. 2 Salisbury University baseball team cruised to a 17-9 victory over Nichols (Mass.) College on Thursday in Cocoa, Fla. The Sea Gulls hit five home runs on the day, seven players recorded at least two hits and three had three hits in the eight-run victory.

East Texas Pump Jack’s 2009 Roster Taking Shape

With Opening Day less than two and half months away, the East Texas Pump Jacks today announced the first three members of the 2009 roster.

Returning to the Pump Jacks this summer is pitcher Chad Sherman, now a junior at Texas A&M. He will be joined by a pair of juniors from the University of Maryland, outfielder A.J. Casario and pitcher Ian Schwalenberg.

I made the half hour drive to San Marcos, Texas to watch a Big 12/Southland Conference match up between Baylor and Texas State. Baylor entered the game after going 1-2 against Big 12 conference foe Texas A&M while Texas State also went 1-2 against Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. Both squads were looking get this week started on the right note.

LSU-Shreveport defeats D-II #1 Southern Arkansas

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots, 27-3 and ranked #6 in the NAIA, defeated the Southern Arkansas Muleriders 7-6 in 12 innings, in a key cross-divisional matchup. Southern Arkansas is 21-7 and ranked #1 in Division II.

2B David Bradley smashed a game-winning double with two outs in the top of the 12th, scoring SS Andrew Blubaugh all the way from first base to win it for the Pilots.

Rchard Pharr was outstanding in relief for the Pilots, pitching four hitless innings and earning his third win of the season.  Pharr did not allow a single hit in his four innings pitched to help lift the Pilots to the win. He is 3-1, 3.86 ERA for the season. Read the rest of this entry »

CBB Visit: Boston College at Bryant University

I sent one of my trusted confidants down to Smithfield, Rhode Island to take in the Boston College and Bryant University game on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. The Bryant Bulldogs ended up knocking off their second ACC squad on the year with an 8-5 victory behind two homers from senior Pat McKenna who finished the day by going a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate. Rices Anthony Rendon went 4-5 with a homerun in their cross-town rival.

Rice's Anthony Rendon went 4-5 with a homerun against cross-town rival Houston.

Two cross-town rivals met at Cougar Field in their second meeting of the season on Wednesday night. The visiting Rice Owls once again got the best of the Houston Cougars, behind a stellar performance at the plate from freshman third baseman Anthony Rendon. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Right-hander Bryant Gaines tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings, and Levi Michael and Mark Fleury each homered to lift No. 1 North Carolina to a two-game sweep of Princeton, 6-1, Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium.
