Here is your Big East Recap for March 20th. This was the first day of conference play.

Pittsburgh 18 Cincinnati 4

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh baseball team opened up Big East Conference play with an 18-4 win over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats here today at Trees Field. Every Panther in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit while eight different Panthers drove in at least one RBI on the day. Read the rest of this entry »

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Levi Michael and Ben Bunting belted two-run home runs and finished with three hits apiece to key an 8-5 win for No. 1 North Carolina over Duke Friday in the series opener at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels (17-2, 5-1 ACC) extended their season-best winning streak to nine games and need just one more victory this weekend to lock up a point in the race for the Carlyle Cup, the all-sports competition between UNC and Duke. McNeese State 14 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4

McNeese State belted three home runs and broke out of a five game losing streak with a 14-4, seven inning victory over TAM-Corpus Christi here Friday in Southland Conference play.

Shon Landry, Taylor Freeman and Ryan Brauninger all smacked round trippers as the Cowboys improved to 10-9 on the season and to 2-5 in league play. The Islanders fell to 6-16 overall and are still winless in SLC play in six outings.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team gained a split over #22 Incarnate Word Friday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers got a walk-off RBI-triple from sophomore Dylan Schuch in game one to win, 4-3. In the second game, senior Brett Friemel pitched a brilliant game was the hard-luck loser, as St. Edward’s fell, 4-3.

UT-Tyler Explodes Offensively in Win at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The 4th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team converted all but two of its 19 hits into runs during Friday’s 17-10 American Southwest Conference win over Ozarks at Lonnie Qualls Field in Clarksville.

UT Tyler led 6-3 after three innings and 8-3 after seven, but it was another eighth inning scoring outburst that sealed the win for the Patriots.

Big 12 Recap for 03-20-09

Kansas 5 #2 Texas 4

Junior Shaeffer Hall pitched seven strong innings, while Preston Land’s RBI single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Kansas knocked off No. 1 Texas, 5-4, Friday afternoon in the Big 12 baseball opener at Hoglund Ballpark.

KU’s win, the first for the Jayhawks over a top-ranked team since 1993, improves the team to 11-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Texas drops to 14-4 and 2-2 in the conference. The game also marked the first time the Jayhawks have won their first league game of the season since 2005.

Salisbury rally falls short against Richard Stockton College

COCOA, Fla. – The No. 2 Salisbury University baseball team scored five runs in the ninth inning and brought the winning run to the plate but could not complete the comeback as the Sea Gulls fell to The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey 10-8 Friday in Cocoa, Fla. This is Salisbury’s second loss in five games as the Sea Gulls went 3-1 on their Spring Break trip to Florida.

SJSU’s Sam Piraro wins 700th Game

The College Baseball Blog would like to take this oppurtunity to congratulate San Jose State’s Sam Piraro on his 700th career victory which he picked up on Thursday in a 6-1 victory over Dartmouth. Coach Piraro is in his 22nd season with the school and has a career record of 700-523-6 record. The Spartans after today’s victory are 15-3 on the year and are looking at competing for a WAC Conference Championship  in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

Arkansas takes its perfect 3-0 record to Auburn this weekend.

The SEC enters the second weekend of conference play this Friday. In somewhat of a surprise start to conference play, the West division flat out dominated the East division. Alabama, in taking two of three from top-ranked Georgia, and Arkansas, sweeping Florida at home, were particularly impressive last weekend.
