Eric Deragisch’s bat lifted UC Irvine to a 4-1 week, including a three-game sweep over then-ranked No. 12 Cal Poly, to earn Big West Player of the Week honors, while UC Riverside’s Paul Bargas picked up Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades after a strong showing on the mound that resulted in a 3-1 victory over top-ranked Cal State Fullerton.

Deragisch (Granite Bay, Calif.) batted .455 in five games, going 10-for-22 with seven runs and six RBI. In the series opener against Washington, his two-run hit gave the Anteaters the go-ahead run and helped erase a three-run deficit. Friday against Cal Poly, Deragisch singled and scored UC Irvine’s first run of the game and followed that up with a single and two runs in the second contest. In the series finale, the senior outfielder recorded a career-high performance with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. He singled and scored in the first inning to give UCI a 2-1 lead and belted his first home run of the season with a three-run blast that broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Anteaters the go-ahead run and eventual game-winning run.

Bargas (Riverside, Calif.) picked up UC Riverside’s Friday-night win over No. 1 Cal State Fullerton, scattering nine hits over eight innings and allowing just one earned run. Seven of the nine hits allowed by Bargas on the night were of the two-out variety, and it was a two-out rally in the top of the first that gave the Titans there lone run of the ballgame. The southpaw walked just one and has only walked three in 33.0 innings pitched.
