Miami (FL) 6 Georgia Tech 2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -Starter Iden Nazario struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings of work and Scott Lawson hit a three-run homer in to break a 2-2 tie in the fourth as No. 2 Miami beat No. 3 Georgia Tech, 6-2, Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

Nazario (3-0), whose seven innings pitched was also a career-high, allowed two early runs but settled down, allowing six hits and just one walk to go along with UM’s first double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Closer Kyle Bellamy relieved Nazario in the eighth and recorded his fourth inning-plus save of the season and his seventh overall, striking out three over the final two innings.

Miami improved to 20-7 overall and 8-4 in ACC play while Georgia Tech drops to 18-4 and 8-2 in league play.

North Carolina 6 Virginia 5

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ryan Graepel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to lift No. 5 North Carolina to a 6-5, series-clinching win over No. 8 Virginia Sunday at Boshamer Stadium. Levi Michael had a career-best four hits, and Kyle Seager went 2-for-3 with a key two-run homer for the Tar Heels (20-6, 7-4 ACC).

Left-hander Brian Moran was brilliant in relief of starter Matt Harvey with career bests of 6 1/3 innings and eight strikeouts. He allowed six hits and no walks and kept the Wahoos out of the scoring column until the top of the ninth. Moran, whose 6 1/3 marked the longest relief outing for the Tar Heels this season, now owns a 42-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2009.

Colin Bates (3-1) picked up the final two outs in the ninth to earn the victory.

Florida State 21 Maryland 5

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Florida State (16-8, 6-4 ACC) matched a season-high in runs and hits on Sunday afternoon in cruising to a 21-5 victory over Maryland (11-15, 3-9 ACC). The win completed the series sweep of the Terps, the first sweep for the Seminoles in league play this year.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Seminoles, tying a season-high. It also marked FSU’s 36th straight victory over Maryland and 25th win in a row in College Park. The 21 runs scored on Sunday afternoon were the most since a 26-2 victory over the Terps in College Park back on May 9, 1999.

“These young men deserve all the credit,” said head coach Mike Martin. “They did a great job and really got after it. This was a big weekend for our baseball team, a very important weekend all-around.”

Game 1: NC State 19 Virginia Tech 18

Game 2: NC State 7 Virginia Tech 6

RALEIGH, N.C. — Pat Ferguson capped an eighth-inning comeback with a pinch-hit two-run home run to lead NC State to a 7-6 victory over Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader at Doak Field at Dail on Sunday. NC State took the first game of the twin-bill 19-18 in an offensive showdown. The Wolfpack used the doubleheader sweep to win its second ACC series of the season.

With the sweep, NC State improves to 15-12 overall and 5-7 in the ACC. Virginia Tech drops to 15-10 overall and 3-8 in ACC play.

Game 1: Wake Forest 4 Duke 2
Game 2: Wake Forest 12 Duke 8

DURHAM, N.C. – After having its 13-game winning streak over Duke snapped on Saturday, Wake Forest wasted no time in starting another streak by sweeping the Blue Devils in a doubleheader on Sunday at Jack Coombs Field. The Demon Deacons won the first game, 4-2, and then posted a 12-8 comeback win in the second game.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Deacons move to 13-11 overall and 3-9 in the ACC. The Blue Devils fall to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Wake Forest got a solid pitching performance from starter Phil Negus to win Game 1 and then turned to the offense for the sweep in Game 2. The Deacons took the weekend series, two-games-to-one after falling 3-1 on Saturday. Wake has not lost a series to Duke since Rick Rembielak’s arrival in 2005.
