Sophomore first baseman Joe Sparcino went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI on Friday.

Here is the Southland Recap for March 27th. Only half of the conference series were able to get underway with the horrendous weather that is hitting the southern part of the United States.

Southeastern Louisiana 11 Lamar 1

HAMMOND – Sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, senior left fielder Brandon Street launched his fourth home run of the year and junior right handed starter Ryan Boudreaux allowed just one run on five hits over 7.0 innings as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (16-8, 7-3 Southland Conference) dominated the Lamar Cardinals (16-9, 5-5 SLC) in an 11-1 win on Friday night to maintain their hold on first place in the SLC.

The Lions got off to a quick start as Street launched his team-leading fourth home run over the left field wall to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

Southeastern extended its lead to 3-0 in the second as Sparacino doubled home freshman designated hitter Cody Gougler and came around to score on a double to center off the bat of freshman shortstop Justin Boudreaux.

That would prove to enough for the Lions as Ryan Boudreaux handcuffed the Lamar lineup. The Gonzales native went 7.0 innings allowing just one run on five hits. Boudreaux recorded three strikeouts, walked just one batter and retired ten consecutive Lamar hitters spanning the fourth through the seventh innings.

Meanwhile, the Lion offense would not let up. After being held scoreless in the third fourth and fifth, the Lions exploded for four runs in both the sixth and seventh.

Senior right fielder Brian McCants scored on a wild pitch, Sparacino delivered a bases-loaded RBI single, Justin Boudreaux added a sacrifice fly and sophomore center fielder Cass Hargis brought home a run with an RBI double to make it 7-1 after six.
