WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — UCLA junior infielder Casey Haerther has been named the Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and ARIZONA STATE junior right-handed pitcher Mike Leake has been named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 16 – 22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Haerther hit two home runs, totaled eight RBI, five runs and 13 total bases last week. He led UCLA to a series-opening win, 14-4, at rival USC on Mar. 21. The Chatsworth, Calif., native hit a grand slam and totaled a season-best four RBI, while adding two runs in the Bruins’ victory. He now has a team-best 18 RBI on the season. He leads UCLA and is third in the Pac-10 with a .393 batting average. The junior ranks first in the Conference with 33 hits and is seventh with 46 total bases on the season.

This is the first weekly honor for Haerther and the 49th all-time for UCLA.

Leake set the tone for the Sun Devils in the first game of a series sweep over rival Arizona to open Conference play. The Fallbrook, Calif., native threw his fifth career complete game, allowing five hits and one run while striking out a career high 15 batters. The junior is now 5-1 on the season and holds a 1.35 ERA. He has struck out 48 batters on the year, ranking first in the Pac-10.

This marks the second weekly pitching honor for Leake and the 53rd overall for Arizona State.
