Stephen F. Austin 11 Nicholls State 0

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Erich Lehmann struck out six and shut out the Nicholls Colonels on Saturday, becoming the all-time strikeout leader at SFA as the ‘Jacks won 11-0 in only seven innings for the second straight day at Jaycees Field.

It is the first time in recorded history that SFA (7-12, 2-5 SLC) has run-ruled an opponent in consecutive games. The ‘Jacks have now won four straight games, including five straight over Nicholls (10-9, 4-4 SLC).

There were a number of milestones on the day, but it all started with Lehmann who earned his first win of the year after throwing seven shutout innings with six strikeouts and no walks. His fourth-inning strikeout of Josh Labiche gave him 221 for his career, surpassing Sean Wood for the all-time mark at the school.

Gabriel Garcia-Serrano also set a single-game record with four stolen bases on the day and scored three of the 11 SFA runs. Zach Gardner finished the day 2-for-5 and sent the fans to the parking lot with his second home run of the season, a 3-run walkoff shot to left field that put the mercy rule into effect. He finished with four RBI, tying a career high.

Southeastern Louisiana 2 at Central Arkansas 1

CONWAY, Ark. – Sophomore right hander Brandon Efferson allowed just one run on five hits while striking out seven in 7.1 IP and the Lion offense rallied with a run in the fifth and one more in the eighth as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (14-6, 6-2 Southland Conference) rallied past Central Arkansas (11-9, 4-4 SLC), extending their season-best winning streak to seven games and claiming sole posession of first place in the SLC, with a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions earned their seventh consecutive win, their longest winning streak since a school record 10-game streak April 4-15, 1997, thanks in large part to a dominant outing by Efferson. The Zachary native battled UCA starter Brandon Solberg in a pitcher’s duel all afternoon.

The Bears struck first with a solo home run from UCA first baseman Jonathan Yerby in the second. However, Efferson soon regained his stride. The sophomore right hander retired 11 consecutive batters in a stretch that lasted from the final out of the third inning through the first out of the seventh inning.

Texas State 4 at Lamar 2

BEAUMONT, Texas – Texas State scored three runs in the top of the ninth to get past Lamar 4-2 in a very competitive college baseball game at Vincent-Beck Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 2-1 since the sixth inning, Texas State got three runs on five hits to claim a 4-2 lead heading into the last half inning.

Kyle Kubitza started the rally with a single to third base, before pinch hitter Spenser Dennis doubled home pinch runner Laurn Randell to tie the game at 1-1. Tyler Sibley followed with a single back up the middle that scored Dennis. Paul Goldschmidt then hit a pop up down the right field line that landed on the white line for a double that plated Sibley, who had advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

The Cardinals appeared like they would answer with a rally of their own in the home half. Pinch-hitter Andy Mena hit a two-out single and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice when defensive replacement Clint Vest’s throw from short to second was inside of the bag, which allowed Mena and batter Tyler Link to reach safely. But reliever Lance Loftin got Brian Taylor to strike out to end the game.
