Northwestern State 0 at UT Arlington 5

Andy Sauter pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout to lift UT Arlington to a 5-0 Southland Conference victory over Northwestern State on Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. The Mavericks also used 12 base hits, including at least one hit from eight starters, to win their fourth game in a row.

UT Arlington (10-10, 3-4 SLC) was led offensively by right fielder Matt Otteman, who hit his third home run of the season, went 3-for-4 and improved his career-high hit streak to 20 games. Otteman tallied a bunt base hit in the third inning, an infield single in the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh inning, giving the Mavericks their final run of the game. He is now batting .470 with a 25 RBI.

“Again, on the mound, Andy did a great job,” head coach Darin Thomas said. “And we found a way to score on Friday night, which is always difficult. Heard has been really good this season and he has been tough on us in the past. Facing him was a tough draw for us, I’m just proud of the way our hitters battled him.”

Southeastern Louisiana 5 at Central Arkansas 3 0

For the first time this season, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (13-6, 5-2 Southland Conference) did not have to come from behind to claim a win. That’s not to say that Friday’s 5-3 victory over Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas (11-8, 4-3 SLC) was completely uneventful, but junior right hander Ryan Boudreaux allowed just one earned run in a stellar 7.2 inning outing, and junior third baseman/reliever Chris Franklin went 2-for-4 with two runs and his fifth save of the season as Southeastern staved off a late UCA rally to extend their winning streak to a season-best six games.

The Lions struck first in the top of the second inning as a three-run frame put Southeastern out in front. Sophomore catcher Josh Cryer doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from Franklin and sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino doubled home two more as the Lions went ahead 3-0 after two.

Central Arkansas rallied for one in the third and one in the fifth, but that was all the Bears could manage against Boudreaux. The Gonzales, La. native and LSU-Eunice transfer retired the first six batters he faced en route to allowing just six hits and one earned run over 7.2 innings pitched. Boudreaux walked just one while striking out four to improve his record to 3-1.

Lamar 8 Texas State 1

BEAUMONT, Texas – Ryan Saldivar hit a two-out, 3-run double to break a 1-1 tie and help spark No. 29 Lamar to an 8-1 victory over Texas State at Vincent-Beck Stadium Friday night.

Lamar (16-5, 5-2 Southland) scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. That was all starter Ricky Testa needed as he struck out five while scattering five hits over seven innings and improve to 2-1 in five Friday night starts.

Senior Tyler Link led off the game with a home run to straightaway center field to give the Cardinals a quick 1-0 lead. It was his sixth of the season and the fourth time he has opened a contest with a homer.

The Bobcats tied it in the top of the fourth on a bases-loaded ground out by Ben Theriot that scored Spenser Dennis. After a walk to Adam Witek, Testa got Jason Martinson to fly out in foul ground down the left field line and end the only true threat the Bobcats had on the night.
