LSU right-hander Louis Coleman was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office.

Coleman, a senior from Schlater, Miss., was brilliant on the mound last week, posting two victories over Kentucky to lead LSU to an SEC series victory. In two appearances vs. UK (one start), Coleman was 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings, allowing just one run on five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts.

  • Senior right fielder Kent Matthes continued his hot start, hitting .450 (9-for-20) in five games this week with four home runs and 11 RBI to extend his hitting streak 16 games as the Tide took two of three from No. 1 Georgia.
  • Matthes homered in four of the Tide’s five games and continues to lead the nation with 13 home runs in 16 games this season. He has homered in 11 of UA’s 16 games, with multi-homer games against SE Missouri State (Feb. 22) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 7).

  • Coleman posted two victories over Kentucky to lead LSU to an SEC series victory … in two appearances vs. UK (one start), Coleman was 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings … He allowed just one run on five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts … Coleman earned the win in relief on Friday night, limiting the Wildcats to no runs on one hit in 2.2 innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
  • Coleman returned as the starting pitcher in the final game of the series on Sunday (a seven-inning contest), and he recorded a complete-game victory, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts…Struck out five in two innings of relief work on Wednesday.

  • Batted .353 for the week making three starts in four games with one double, a triple, three runs scored and a RBI…In the Florida series batted .429 with six hits in 14 at bats. Posted a .429 on-base percentage from the leadoff position and slugged .623 slugging percentage…Scored three times against the Gators with a RBI.
  • In Sunday afternoon’s game, led off with a triple and scored Arkansas’ first run of the game… Had the first three-hit game of his career in Saturday afternoon’s win with a double, run scored and RBI.
