Big South Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty junior outfielder Curran Redal (Moses Lake, Wash.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Winthrop sophomore Dominic Patterozzi (Edwardsville, Ill.) has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played March 9-15, it was announced today by the League office.

Redal helped Liberty post a 3-1 record last week with a .500 batting average (5-10), .684 on-base percentage and a .900 slugging percentage. He scored five runs, knocked in seven, doubled, homered, walked six times and was 3-3 in stolen bases. He hit a home run and walked twice in Liberty’s victory over Duke, had two hits and two RBI in the Flames’ win over William & Mary, and collected two hits and three RBI in Liberty’s two games against Charleston Southern.

Patterozzi picked up his third victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Southern California last Friday. He gave up one run on four hits and struck out six batters in 7.2 innings of work, and allowed just a .167 batting average against him. It was the first time in school history that Winthrop defeated the Trojans. Patterozzi’s line against the Trojans: 1-0, 1.17 ERA, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 3 BB, 6 SO.

Other Baseball Player of the Week Nominees: Tom Burkett (Charleston Southern), Tyler Bortnick (Coastal Carolina), Beau Zinman (UNC Asheville) and A.J. Yoder (VMI).

Other Baseball Pitcher of the Week Nominees: Anthony Markham (Charleston Southern), Nick McCully (Coastal Carolina), Greir Harrington (UNC Asheville) and Travis Smink (VMI).
