Kansas 4 vs #4 Arizona State 9

Sophomore Tony Thompson went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 21-straight games, but it was not enough for Kansas baseball Friday. Fourth-ranked Arizona State scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to tackle Kansas 9-4 in a non-conference baseball game Friday at Surprise Stadium.

Kansas snaps its seven-game winning streak, falling to 9-4 on the season. The Sun Devils improve to 13-2.

Thompson’s 21 game streak is tied for the second-longest in KU history with former Jayhawk Ryan Baty, and is tied for the 12th longest in Big 12 history. Jared Schweitzer holds the Kansas record for consecutive games with a base hit with 24 straight in 2005.

The Jayhawks put up a valiant effort, but were done in by two misplays in the field.

Bethune-Cookman 4 vs #19 Oklahoma 5

Casey Johnson delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded to give No. 15 Oklahoma a 5-4 win over Bethune Cookman during the first game of the USF Bulls Baseball Classic on Friday.

The Sooners entered the bottom half of the 10th down 4-3 and Johnson’s single through the left side of the infield was the Sooners’ lone hit in the frame. The Bulls’ bullpen walked three batters before allowing pinch runner Elliott Blair to score on a wild pitch. The next batter, Jamie Johnson (2-for-3, HR, RBI), was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before Casey Johnson provided the heroics.

Kansas State trailed 4-3 after Butler broke a tie with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Wildcats scored five runs over the next three frames – including two in the sixth and seventh innings – to put the game away.

Drew Biery led off the sixth with a walk before Dellasega stepped into the first pitch his saw and drove it over the left center-field wall to put the Cats up for good. K-State also grabbed a pair of runs in the seventh when Adam Muenster walked, stole second base and scored on a Justin Bloxom single before Jason King drove home Bloxom on a RBI double to make the score 7-4.
