CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior right-hander Adam Warren twirled seven innings of three-hit ball, and freshman second baseman Levi Michael recorded his first career three-hit game to pace No. 2 North Carolina to a 5-2 win over No. 18 Clemson Saturday in front of a capacity crowd of 4,100 at Boshamer Stadium.

Warren (2-0) held the Tigers to three hits and two walks and did not allow an earned run over a season-best seven innings. The New Bern product struck out eight for the second straight start before Colin Bates nailed down the win with a six-out save, the first of his career.

Michael went 3-for-5 with a run and a double, and Kyle Seager was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI for Carolina (9-2, 1-1 ACC).

Boston College 14 #6 FSU 6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Led by junior Tony Sanchez’s four hits, Boston College’s bats came alive in the second game of the series at No. 6 Florida State, producing 16 hits in a 14-6 win Saturday night in front of 4,969 at Dick Howser Stadium.

It was the program’s first win against Florida State and first victory against a team ranked in the top 10 since April 30, 2006.

Sanchez finished 4-for-6 on the day and a triple shy of the cycle. He hit his fourth home run of the season and also knocked a pair of doubles. He drove in three runs and scored three times himself.

Junior Barry Butera and freshman Brad Zapenas both recorded three hits and two RBI on the day while junior Mike Belfiore went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs. Sophomore Mickey Wiswall hit his third homer of the season on the first pitch following Sanchez’s blast for back-to-back home runs in the top of the first.

Miami (FL) 4 NC State 0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior right-hander David Gutierrez turned in his second straight scoreless start and the Hurricanes’ pitching staff held NC State to just three hits as the eighth-ranked University of Miami baseball team won the game and the series over the Wolfpack, 4-0, Saturday at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

Gutierrez (2-0), who was named Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing seven scoreless innings in a 2-1 win at No. 12 Florida last weekend, allowed just three hits while extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 13 straight. Gutierrez struck out four and walked five, but timely pitching and solid defense kept the Wolfpack off the board all night.

#10 Georgia Tech 24 Maryland 3

ATLANTA – Jeff Rowland, Thomas Nichols, Jason Haniger, Chase Burnette and Matt Simonds all homered to lead No. 9 Georgia Tech (8-1, 2-0 ACC) to a 24-3 rout of Maryland (4-6, 0-2 ACC) Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets gave starter Zach Von Tersch (3-0) plenty of run support, and the junior righty picked up his third win in as many starts this season. Tech plated 10 runs for the third time in 2009, with all three of those games coming with Von Tersch on the mound.

The 24 runs were the most scored by the Yellow Jackets since March 3, 2006, when Tech defeated Rutgers, 25-8, and the most scored in an ACC game since the Jackets defeated Virginia Tech, 27-2, on May 14, 2005.

Virginia 8 Wake Forest 6

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia baseball team jumped out to a 7-2 lead through five and a half innings, then held on for an 8-6 win over Wake Forest Saturday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Virginia pushed its record to 11-0 this season (2-0 ACC) as it clinched a series win against the Demon Deacons. The 11-game winning streak is tied with Georgia for the longest current winning streak in the nation.

Virginia withstood a home run barrage from the Demon Deacons, who swatted four homers in the contest. UVa got one of its own from Jarrett Parker (So., Stafford, Va.), who went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. For the second straight night, every Virginia starter recorded at least one hit. UVa had 16 hits in the contest and now has 36 in the two games of the series.

Phil Gosselin (So., West Chester, Pa.) and John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.) each had three hits for Virginia. Hicks also added three RBI. Tyler Cannon (Jr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) followed up his 5-for-5 effort on Friday night with two hits on Saturday.

Duke 5 Va Tech 4

DURHAM, N.C. – Jake Lemmerman sent in the game-winning run with a two-out infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Duke a 5-4 win over Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.

Lemmerman’s hit was a slow roller up the middle with runners at the corners that Virginia Tech second baseman Tony Balisteri could do little with besides knock it down to keep it in front of him. The base knock scored Duke junior Jeremy Gould from third base after the Blue Devil three-hitter started the rally with a double for his fourth hit of the ballgame.

It was the second hit and RBI of the game for Lemmerman, who also reached with an RBI double in the third inning for one of Duke’s four extra-base knocks in the contest. Gould, Alex Hassan and Nate Freiman also doubled in the game.

Hassan’s double was one of two hits in the game for him, as he finished 2-for-4 with three runs and came onto the mound in relief to pick up the win. Also doubling as Duke’s closer, Hassan (1-0) pitched the eighth and ninth innings, giving up one run and two hits while striking out two.
