In the Bulls’ 4-1 win over IPFW, Pierre Miville-Deschenes worked 7.0 innings. He struck out 12 batters while only allowing one hit for his second victory on the season (2-0).

Andy Deain, Northern Illinois, Pitcher

Deain picked up his first career win as a starter in only his second start by defeating Baseball America No. 15 Missouri 5-2 this past Saturday at the DeMarini Invite in Tempe, Ariz. He went six innings, surrendering only one earned run on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. His six innings pitched marks a career high and his five strikeouts were one shy of tying his career mark.

Jason Patton, Kent State, Outfield

Went 3-for-5 in the first game against Wagner with a double and two runs scored. Patton went 2-for-4 in the second game against Winthrop with three runs scored and two RBI. With the Flashes leading 4-0 with a runner on and two outs in the bottom of the third, Patton hit a 3-2 pitch to right field to give Kent State a 6-0 lead. Five games into the season, Patton leads the team in runs scored (11) and second in hits (10), home runs (2), batting average (.476) and slugging percentage (.810).

Jeremy Hazelbaker, Ball State, Centerfield

Hazelbaker led the Cardinals to a 2-0 record on the weekend and the top mark in the 2009 Austin Peay Baseball Invitational. Hazelbaker posted a .600 batting average (six-of-10) in the two games as he drove in six runs, scored four runs and posted a 1.200 slugging percentage. Friday afternoon, he tallied his first home run of the season as he recorded a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory over instate rival Indiana. He followed that up with a four-hit performance against Austin Peay Sunday as he drove in a career-high five runs in the victory. He tallied a double, triple and two singles against the Governors.
