The ACC had a tough day on March 3rd with only one victory with Boston College edging Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the conference struggled highlighted by Miami (FL) being shutout 3-0 by Rhode Island and Jacksonville knocking off Florida State 9-4. The rest of the games on March 3rd were canceled due to the large snowstorm which still is wrecking havoc with many college baseball fields in the southern part of this country.
Jacksonville 9 Florida State 4
Senior catcher Brad Simmons went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI while five Dolphin pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters to lead the JU baseball team to a 9-4 win over No. 6 Florida State, Tuesday evening in front of 2,097 fans at John Sessions Stadium.
JU (4-4), which has split the season series with FSU in each of the last two years, earned its largest margin of victory over the Seminoles since a 13-4 decision on Feb. 24, 2002 at John Sessions Stadium.
FSU (6-2) tallied only four hits in the contest and committed two errors, one of which helped fuel a five-run sixth inning for JU.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior pitcher Eric Smith (Milford, Conn.) threw eight shutout innings as the Rhode Island baseball team upset No. 8 Miami, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez park in Coral Gables, Fla. Smith struck out five batters and allowed just three hits in what arguably is the biggest victory in the program’s history.
“This is so wild right now,” Smith said following his dominant performance on the mound. “Its like I can’t even speak. The guys are all so pumped, its awesome. I’m still catching my breath.”
Senior Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) and sophomore Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) both went 2-for-4 on the night to lead the Rams at the plate.

Furman 4 Clemson 2 (14 innings)
CLEMSON, S.C. — Brian Harrison’s two-out, two-run home run in the ninth inning forged a 2-2 tie, and Furman pushed across two runs in the 14th inning to beat 19th-ranked Clemson, 4-2, in college baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Harrison’s dramatic two-run blast over the left field fence capped a ninth inning comeback for Furman (4-2), which came within one strike of being no-hit. With Clemson (4-2) leading 2-0 and with two outs in the frame, Furman’s Connor Lind topped a two-ball, two-strike pitch high off the plate into the grass approximately six feet inside the third base line and easily beat the throw from Tiger third baseman Matt Sanders to break up the no-hitter. Harrison then deposited the first pitch he saw, a fastball from Clemson reliever Ryan Hinson, deep over the left field fence to tie the game at 2-2.
Boston College 7 Florida Gulf Coast 6
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Garret Smith delivered a two-out, two-run double in the top of the eighth to give the Boston College baseball team a 4-3 lead and the Eagles held on for a 7-6 win at Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday night at Swanson Stadium.
Smith gave BC its first lead since the first inning with his double in the top of the eighth. The Eagles added three more runs in the ninth which they would need to hold on for the win.
The Eagles’ middle relief came up huge in the game. Junior Chris Kowalski was the first out of the pen when he came in with two on and nobody out in the bottom of the third and got out of the jam. He then went on to finish perfect on the evening, recording nine consecutive outs in his three innings of work.
