CBB Spotlight Series: Florida wins 10-4

No. 23 Florida (2-0) clinched its weekend series with a 10-4 triumph over eighth-ranked Louisville (0-2) on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,483 fans at McKethan Stadium. Freshman left-hander Alex Panteliodis (Tampa, Fla.) captured his collegiate debut by working six innings and allowing two runs, senior Brandon McArthur (Seffner, Fla.) smacked a three-run double as part of a five-run fourth and sophomore Riley Cooper (Clearwater, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with a couple of two-baggers. MLB Network set to show Doubleheader on Saturday
The new MLB Network will be showing the MLB Urban Invitational game on Saturday. The first game between Bethune-Cookman and San Diego will start at 5pm Eastern time. The second game will feature San Diego State led by MLB legend Tony Gwynn taking on Southern University at 8:30pm. So if you are stuck home like I am in New England, these are some of the best games available on your cable provider. On Friday evening at Cowboy Diamond on the campus of McNeese State University, the HBU baseball team out-hit McNeese State but fell by a score of 9-6 in the season-opener for both teams.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team dropped two games to open a weekend series with St. Mary’s Friday afternoon in San Antonio. The Rattlers took game one, 3-0, and won the second contest, 5-2.
CBB Visit: Texas Tech’s New Era Begins

Friday, February 20th was the dawn of a new era in Texas Tech baseball. The changing of the guard was officially ushered in with a double header sweep of Southern Utah University and Texas-Pan American, moving Texas Tech to 2-0 for the first time since the 2006 season.
Game 1 got off to a quick start after back-to-back doubles gave the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead over the Red Raiders. Tech answered quickly with a bases loaded 2-run double from freshman DH Kevin Whitehead and an RBI single from junior LF Taylor Ashby. From there, sophomore RHP Chad Bettis and the rest of the Raiders entered cruise control, finishing off the visitors with a 14-3 victory. Read the rest of this entry »

Behind a seven-inning stint and a career-high seven strikeouts by senior right-hander Patrick Keating (Harrisburg, Ill.), No. 23 Florida enjoyed a successful 2009 debut with a 6-3 victory over eighth-ranked Louisville on Friday night at McKethan Stadium in front of a crowd of 4,403 fans. Junior Billy Bullock (Balm, Fla.) closed the game with a pair of scoreless innings to notch his first career save. Here is your ACC recap for Febraury 20th. We saw the North Carolina Tar Heels jump off to a great start to the season with a 13-3 victory over VMI. The ACC had a strong day which saw them win 9 games while dropping only three games.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Garrett Gore and Mark Fleury each drove in three runs as No. 1 North Carolina broke open a tight game with a six-run fifth inning to claim a 13-3 win over VMI Friday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. Big 12 Recap for February 20th

I was able to get away from work and make it out to Disch Falk Field by the 2nd inning. It was a great Friday Afternoon to take in a game of baseball. Texas open the game with Sophomore Chance Ruffin and UI-C counter with junior left-hander Chris Kovacevich.
The Longhorns manufactured one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Travis Tucker led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield. A sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy and a wild pitch pushed Tucker to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Belt.

The Patriot League saw only three teams in action with none of the teams picking up a win.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three Virginia pitchers combined on a shutout of Bucknell and limited the Bison to just four hits as the Bucknell baseball team dropped its season opener to the Cavaliers, 12-0, Friday evening at a chilly and blustery Davenport Field.
