Florida junior Mike Mooney (Loxahatchee, Fla.) delivered a walk-off single with two down in the bottom of the ninth to lift the No. 23 Gators (3-0) to a 3-2 victory over No. 8 Louisville (0-3) and a sweep of the season-opening series on Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium in front of 3,094 spectators. With the game deadlocked at two runs apiece and the travel curfew looming, UF staged a two-out rally to secure its first sweep of a Top-10 opponent since taking all three games from No. 10 Ole Miss between March 15-17, 2002. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sophomore first baseman J.J. Thompson’s double to the gap in right-center field knocked in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Cal Poly completed a comeback from a 6-2 deficit and upset No. 3 Rice 7-6 Saturday night in Baggett Stadium.

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Leopards began their 2009 baseball season with a bang, taking both games of a season-opening doubleheader in Davidson. Lafayette won a 2-1 decision against Ohio in the day’s first game and capped off the afternoon with a 10-6 win over host Davidson.

Senior shortstop Daniel Bierce led the Lafayette offense with five hits, including a two-run home run against Davidson, and added three RBI. Sophomore righty Zach Fritz tossed 6.2 shutout innings against Ohio and Corey Shea threw four innings of one-run relief in the Leopards’ second victory. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lumberjack baseball team kept the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at bay for the majority of the afternoon, but MVSU was able to scrape across a run in the bottom of the ninth to pick up a season-opening 4-3 win over SFA at the rain-soaked ULM Warhawk Classic.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In their first game in the starting lineup together, Southeast Guilford graduates Jeff Medley and Austin Moyer (Greensboro, N.C.) gave the USC Upstate baseball team the offensive boost it needed, combining to go 5-for-8 with seven runs, two RBIs and a homer to lead the Spartans past SIU Edwardsville in the nightcap of Saturday’s action at the Courtyard By Marriott Baseball Classic at Harley Park.
