Centenary 8, (#1) Texas A&M 4

Centenary overcame a three home run effort by the Texas A&M offense and scored three runs in the eighth inning to hand the top-ranked Aggies their first loss of the year, 8-4, Wednesday afternoon before 2,979 fans at Olsen Field.

A&M (5-1) trailed by three entering the sixth before a solo shot by Luke Anders and a two-run home run by Dylan Petrich one inning later would tie the game at four.

Jim Gilligan Picks Up Win No. 1,100 At Lamar In 6-1 Win Over Siena

BEAUMONT, Texas – Steven Tucker and Joey Latulippe combined for six hits and drove in four as Lamar defeated Siena, 6-1, to give longtime Lamar head coach Jim Gilligan his 1,100th win at Lamar Wednesday.

Gilligan is Lamar’s winningest coach with 1,110 career wins in 33rd year as a head coach.

Huskies to play two home games at Safeco Field

U. of Washington Huskies logoThe Washington Huskies have moved two of their home games to Safeco Field, the home field of the Seattle Mariners. They will host the Arizona State Sun Devils on April 3, and the Oregon State Beavers on May 8. Both games are at 6:30 PM PDT.

The Huskies have played home games at Safeco Field the past two seasons. They defeated Arizona 1-0 in an excellent ball game last year, and defeated Oregon State 6-2 in 2007. The Oregon State game drew a Pac-10 record 10,421 fans. Read the rest of this entry »

Chris Dominguez looks to raise Draft Stock

Junior third baseman Chris Dominguez of Louisville turned down a multi-million dollar offer last season from the Colorado Rockies after being selected in the fifth round. He believes that his decision to stay in school will raise his draft stock for the 2009 MLB draft which I tend to agree with. Read the rest of this entry »

Eric Sorenson’s New Site

The College Baseball Blog’s good friend Eric Sorenson has started a new blog called College Baseball Today where he is continuing his coverage of College Baseball. He was one of the many casualties when CSTV was taken over by CBS. The people running CBS decided to take their College Baseball coverage in another direction. Right now, the direction is no coverage of the great game. Eric really made the CSTV coverage worth reading and his site had some great articles over the weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

Save Northern Iowa Baseball?

We reported on Monday that Northern Iowa will be dropping baseball at the end of the 2009 season (Click here for article) but it looks like head coach Rick Heller has gotten a reprieve. UT-Tyler Blanks Hardin-Simmons

The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler Baseball team allowed just two hits in a 7-0 shutout of Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday night at Irwin Field.

UT Tyler (9-1) managed to cluster its hits on the night, scoring all seven runs in just two innings. The Patriots scored three runs off of Hardin-Simmons (4-5) in the first and four in the fourth.

Lets Play Two, No Lets Play Three!

Two weeks ago Pacific University, a Division 3 school in Forest Grove Oregon played a tripleheader against the Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont California. The teams were scheduled to play a single game on Friday with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday. The game on Friday was rained out and the two coaches decided to make up the rained out game before the doubleheader on Saturday setting up the doubleheader. Read the rest of this entry »

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Freshman Ryan Fern (Oviedo, Fla./Winter Springs) allowed just five hits in 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and back-to-back homers from junior Jimmy Tanner (Fayetteville, Ga./Starr’s Mill) and senior Phillip Morgan (Campobello, S.C./Spartanburg Methodist) highlighted a six-run seventh inning as the USC Upstate baseball team downed 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference runner-up Gardner-Webb, 12-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Masters Field.
