A proven winner who has a coaching lineage that includes a nine-year stint as the most successful head coach in College of Charleston history, a playing and coaching career at ACC stalwart Clemson, a stop at Arizona State and an eight-year professional playing career, John Pawlowski has worked hard to become the head man of an elite college baseball program. The Dartmouth Big Green won the divisional title last season which qualified them for the Ivy League Championship series. The Big Green ended up losing the three game set with the Columbia Lions. Tampa Uses Timely Hitting To Sweep Double Header

Tampa, Fla.- The second ranked University of Tampa (3-0) baseball team takes both games in the double header against Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia College and State University (2-1). Tampa needed an extra frame to take the first game 6-5, then finished the day with a 3-1 victory.

In the first game, the Spartans found themselves down 5-0 in the bottom of fifth. Tampa then got on the board on a Ken Gregory double to left center scoring Jared Simon. Gregory would then score on a Jesus Barroso single. UT would score one more time in the inning to cut the GCSU lead to two. Read the rest of this entry »

CBB Visit: UT-Tyler Easton Classic Tournament

With Div 1 baseball starting on February 20, I grew tired of waiting for Division 1 to start so I drove out to Tyler, Texas to take in opening weekend for The Easton Classic. The four teams that participated are  UT-Tyler, UT-Dallas, Concordia (Austin) and Trinity (San Antonio). With the help of Asst SID of UT-Tyler the trip was well worth the drive.

Texas Posts 3-0 Shutout Over Alumni

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Baseball team posted a 3-0 shutout over the Texas Exes in the annual Alumni Game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Longhorns’ young pitching staff highlighted the afternoon as they allowed just four hits in a shutout performance. Freshman Taylor Jungmann and sophomore Brandon Workman each worked three scoreless innings. Jungmann allowed just one hit and two walks. Workman yielded one hit while fanning two.

ARKADELPHIA – Drew Wurzelbacher hit a grand slam to highlight a nine-run second inning during the second game of a doubleheader as the ninth-ranked Ouachita Baptist University baseball team salvaged a split Sunday afternoon as the Tigers dropped the opening game, 5-3, but took the second contest in a rout, 14-1, at Rab Rodgers Field.

HAMMOND – Last season the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team saw good production and solid defense around the horn. In 2009, head coach Jay Artigues expects the same. With just one graduation from last season, the Lion infield appears ready to pick up where last season’s crew left off.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team took two games from Newman Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers took the first game, 13-1, and claimed victory in the second contest, 5-1.

In game one, St. Edward’s (4-3, 3-1 HC) took advantage of an absolute offensive explosion. The Hilltoppers scored 13 runs on 15 hits. They did not even need nearly this much offensive firepower because they held Newman (1-3, 1-3 HC) to only one run.

Ouachita Baptist sweeps doubleheader from Missouri Western

ARKADELPHIA – It was a ceremonial day Saturday at Rab Rogers Field as the 2008 Division II National Runner-up team was recognized before the game as the ninth-ranked Ouachita Baptist University baseball team swept a doubleheader over Missouri Western State, 7-6 and 65.

The second pitch from the mound in the opening game set Missouri Western (0-2) up with the lead as Troy Landi homered over the left-center wall. Then in the top of the second Billy Waldman hit a two run home run over the same spot to give the Griffons a 3-0 lead.
