The group includes a pair of Major League draft picks in Bobby Stevens and Trevor Feeney, as well as second team All-MAC performer Jeff Thomas and 2008 Rawlings Gold Glove honoree Adam Holdenrid. There’s a saying in sports that states, “championship teams don’t rebuild, they just reload.” If there was ever a phrase that described the 18th edition of UTSA baseball, that would be it to a tee.

Despite losing four of the top hitters (Zach Etheredge, James Keithley, Trent Lockwood and Tim Palincsar) and two of the top starting pitchers (Bradley Chovanec, Steven Vasquez) in school history, the Roadrunners return a strong nucleus of players in 2009.

Tampa splits doubleheader on Sunday

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE
LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The top-ranked University of Tampa baseball team split Sunday afternoon’s games, defeating No. 12 West Alabama 7-2 and dropping their second matchup against No. 19 Southern Arkansas by a score of 8-3. The split moves the Spartans to 6-3 on the season, while the Tigers also fall to 6-3 and the Muleriders to 7-3.

After falling behind in an early 2-0 hole, Tampa starter John Wiedenbauer rebounded with four scoreless innings, walking one batter and striking out eight. CBB 2009 Big Ten Preview: Iowa

iowaUniversity of Iowa Hawkeyes

2008 overall record 22-33, Big Ten record 10-22, 10th.

If head coach Jack Dahm had his way, coming off of a 4th place conference finish in 2007, 2008 would have been the year his Iowa Hawkeyes showed they have what it takes to be an elite champion contender team. Sometimes in life reality gives you a hard slap in the face, and for the Hawkeye baseball program, falling from 4th to last isn’t exactly a pleasurable experience. Read the rest of this entry »

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE

Head Coach Gary Henderson

Head Coach Gary Henderson (UK Athletics Picture)

When Kentucky started its preseason workouts a year ago, the national thought about the program was that UK may be just a one-hit wonder.

After claiming an improbable Southeastern Conference Championship in 2006, an unprecedented worst-to-first run in the toughest conference in college baseball, the Wildcats were hit by a rash of injuries, including a season-ending injury to first-team All-America outfielder Collin Cowgill in the preseason of 2007. First-round talent Scott Green pitched in only nine games in 2007, joining Cowgill on the Wildcat bench for the majority of the season. Read the rest of this entry »
