No area on the field was hit harder by graduation and the draft than the infield. With the losses of Alvarez, Feinberg, Flaherty and Robin, Vanderbilt will be looking for new starters at every position besides first base, where junior Andrew Giobbi returns.

2009 Cincinnati Season Preview: Corner IF’s

UC opens its 2009 campaign on Friday, Feb. 20, at the inaugural BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge. The Bearcats play Purdue University at 1 p.m. at the Raymond A. Naimoli Complex in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Seton Hall to host Strike Out Cancer Tournament

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — On Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, the Seton Hall Pirates baseball team will host the first annual Rawlings Strike Out Cancer Tournament as they welcome NJIT, Iona, and Northeastern to Owen T. Carroll Field on the campus of Seton Hall University. As the sponsor, Rawlings will be donating t-shirts to the four teams, as well as selling them to fans in attendance. 2009 Vandy Season Preview: Pitching

Vanderbilt’s strong suit in 2009 should be its pitching staff. The returning members of the staff accounted for 37 of the team’s 41 wins last season and pitched 87.4 percent of the innings.

The staff will be buoyed by the return of its weekend rotation of lefthander Mike Minor and righthanders Caleb Cotham and Nick Christiani. The rotation posted a 20-12 mark and accounted for 43.6 percent of the team’s strikeouts. Read the rest of this entry »

Missouri Season Preview — Part IV: The 2009 Outfielders

The Tigers’ top two hitters from a year ago return to lead the Missouri outfield. Junior Aaron Senne had a team best .347 average last year, while senior Ryan Lollis hit .339.

Senne was an All-Big 12 first team selection in 2008 after leading the team in batting average and RBI (67). He enters the 2009 season as a Preseason All-America selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association.
