Texas A&M 8 Wright State 5

Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

“It’s tough to beat anyone four games in a row in three days,” A&M coach Rob Childress said. “For us to respond after giving up that four-spot in the sixth was impressive. We had an opportunity to fail twice this weekend and we responded both times.”

Texas 1 Illinois Chicago 0

Brandon Workman and Austin Wood combined to yield three hits as the Texas Longhorns blanked the UIC Flames, 1-0, in non-conference baseball action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.

Workman (1-0) earned the victory as he allowed just two hits while striking out seven in 7.0 innings of work. The sophomore right-hander retired the side in order in six of the seven innings. Wood picked up his first save of the season with two shutout innings. The senior lefty scattered one hit and one walk in relief.

Oklahoma State 13 Manhattan 1

Oklahoma State remained perfect on the young season with a 13-1 win over Manhattan Sunday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

Junior pitcher Tyler Lyons worked six strong innings on the mound for the Cowboys, while Neil Medchill and Doug Kroll led the offensive attack as OSU improved to 4-0.

Lyons held the Jaspers (1-3) hitless over the first three innings and surrendered just two hits in six scoreless innings while striking out five. He has now won 11-straight decisions dating back to last season.

Baylor 5 Pacific 4

Lucas Hileman slapped a bases-loaded walk-off single through a drawn-in infield with no outs in the bottom of the 10th as No. 8 Baylor defeated Pacific 5-4 in Sunday’s series finale at Baylor Ballpark. With the win, the Bears take the series two games to one.

It marked the second time in three days that a Baylor (2-1) freshman delivered a bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Redshirt freshman Dan Evatt accomplished the feat in Friday night’s season opener. This time, it was the true-freshman Hileman who played the role of hero.

Gonzaga 13 Missouri 9

Mizzou closed out the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. with a 13-9 loss to Gonzaga on Sunday. The Tigers, who fell to Nevada earlier in the day, wrapped up the season opening weekend with a record of 1-3.

Missouri took the early lead in Sunday afternoon’s game with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but fell behind after a four-run top of the second by Gonzaga. The Bulldogs then scored twice in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Nevada downs Missouri, 8-4.

Missouri dropped its second-straight game, falling to Nevada 8-4 on Sunday at the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mizzou fell behind when Matt Bowan homered in the first inning and trailed the entire game. It was a one-run game in the top of the seventh when Shaun Kort connected on a three-run home run to extend the Wolf Pack lead to 7-3. Nevada hit four home runs in the game and Bowman had two, the second coming in the top of the ninth inning.

500th career win for UH’s Rayner Noble (10 innings)

University of Houston head coach baseball Rayner Noble earned his 500th career win as the Cougars came from behind and defeated Kansas State, 3-2, in 10 innings in the series finale on Sunday at Cougar Field.

Junior Zak Presley scored on a single through the right side from sophomore Matt Murphy to give Houston the win in the bottom of the 10th inning. Presley reached base on a single to second base and he would advance to second when freshman David Murphy grounded out to the shortstop. Presley scored the go ahead run when Matt Murphy came in to pinch hit.

Memphis 2 Kansas 1

Despite 6 1/3 strong innings from junior pitcher Cameron Selik, Kansas couldn’t find the clutch hits when it needed them in a 2-1 loss to Memphis Sunday in the final game of the Service Academy Classic at USA Stadium.

The Tigers scored single runs in the first and second innings to improve to 2-1, while the Jayhawks fell to 1-2.

Nebraska 5 Louisiana Lafayette

A 10-inning game ended in a tie for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, ending a four-game, three-day marathon at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field which included seven extra innings and an hour-long rain delay.

The Cajuns and Huskers called the game after 10 frames at 5-5, due to Nebraska’s pending flight back to Lincoln out of New Orleans. It was the first tie in 26 years for Louisiana, as well as the first of head coach Tony Robichaux’s career, the ninth in Cajuns history, and the second at Moore Field.

Texas Tech 10 UT-Pan Am

Oklahoma 21-Western Illinois 9

Oklahoma finished the four-game series against Western Illinois with a strong offensive performance on Sunday en route to a 21-9 victory at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The No. 16 Sooners pounded out a season-high 24 hits and was by Jamie Johnson, who was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Bryant Hernandez, who finished 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs.
