CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ben Bunting posted career highs of three hits and three RBI, and Levi Michael and Mark Fleury belted home runs in No. 1 North Carolina’s 10-3 win over Seton Hall Saturday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. The Texas State baseball team held a 9-1 lead over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with Kane Holbrooks on the mound, but costly relief in the final frame nearly saw the win disappear, but the Bobcats managed to hold off the charge for a 9-6 win at Whataburger Field Saturday afternoon.

Texas State improves to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in league action, while A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 1-6 and 0-2, respectively.

UT-Tyler Splits to Avoid Sweep by McMurry

The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team went 1-1 during Saturday’s doubleheader at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene to avoid losing all three games of the three game series.

UT Tyler (10-3) narrowly lost game one, 4-3, but bounced back with an 8-5 win in game two.

ARKADELPHIA – The 17th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Stillman Saturday as Ouachita won the opener, 12-5, and took the second game, 6-4, at Rab Rodgers Field.

Ouachita (13-5) jumped out Stillman with nine runs in the first two innings, including five in the first in the opener.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Hilltoppers overcame strong windy conditions and a poor defensive performance to take the rubber game of a three-game set with UT-Permian Basin, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

On a blustery day, UT-Permian Basin (13-5, 10-4 HC) looked sharp in the early going. Falcon starter Drew Kendrick (3-2) was especially sharp. He was nearly perfect during his first two innings of work. Kendrick kept St. Edward’s (8-9, 7-7 HC) scoreless during his first two innings of work, allowing only one run and striking out three Hilltoppers.

CBB Visit: Houston College Classic – Houston v. Baylor

The second game of the Houston College Classic was an old school Southwest Conference rematch. The Baylor Bears and Houston Cougars took the field at Minute Maid Park Friday afternoon in what turned out to be a pitcher’s duel. Southland Conference Recap 02-27-09

Texas State 7, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but came up short 7-4 in their Southland Conference opener versus Texas State at Whataburger Field on Friday night.

The Islanders drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference with the loss, while Texas State is now 4-2 and 1-0.

McMurry Rallies to Top UT-Tyler

ABILENE, Texas – The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team’s bats went flat during the final four innings of Friday’s game, as McMurry rallied for the 11-7 upset at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene.

The lead went back and forth for most of the game and both teams had plenty of opportunities to score. The Patriots (9-2) had 14 hits during the game, while McMurry (6-3) had 15.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kevin McKague went 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs batted in and Clint Moore keyed an eight-run fifth with a three-run home run as Army raced past South Carolina-Upstate 17-10, Friday afternoon at Harley Park.
