2009 Baseball America Preseason Top 25

Baseball America has put out their Preseason Top 25 which is led by the Texas A&M Aggies. They are coming off a 46-19 season which ended with a Super Regional appearance where they were swept by Rice. The Louisiana State Tigers come in at the number 2 spot after making the College World Series last season. North Carolina comes in at number 3 after another appearance in Omaha. BoydWorld’s Pitcher Abuse Points Report

Boyd’s World has done an excellent study on pitch counts for the 2008 season. He looked at every start from around the nation and figured out which schools treat their pitchers the best in terms of pitch counts while other schools abuse their pitchers with insane pitch counts. I have been slacking recently on keeping up with the Rivals Top 25 countdown. Kendall Rogers has rated three teams that I have missed over the last few days. He has Baylor at 18th overall as they are led by Kendal Volz. The Louisville Cardinals check in at 17 as they will be led by senior third baseman Chris Dominguez. Seminole baseball is just 32 days from opening day.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State Baseball is gearing up for what looks to be an exciting season in 2009. Following a run to the College World Series last year, the Seminoles hope to make a return trip to Omaha in ’09 returning 18 letterwinners, including five position starters, while welcoming 13 newcomers.

McNeese State kicked off baseball practice this week with 21 lettermen on hand.

Former McNeese pitching standout Terry Burrows is in his second season as the team head coach and will have about a month to get his team ready for the year. The Cowboys begin their season on Feb. 20 in a three game series with Houston Baptist.

Northwestern State Demon baseball to retire two numbers

NATCHITOCHES – February 7 will be a special night for two former Northwestern State baseball players as Jim Willis’ No. 28 jersey and Billie Roy Cook’s No. 10 will be retired during the annual NSU Demon Baseball Opening Day Banquet.

Their jerseys will join standout pitcher Brian Lawrence (29) and record holding coach Jim Wells (17) as the only numbers retired in NSU baseball history. They will display on the outfield wall at Brown-Stroud Field.

CBB’s NAIA Pre-season Top 10

The 53rd NAIA baseball season starts on Friday, with Belhaven at Spring Hill (Mobile, AL), La Sierra at Concordia-Irvine, LSU-Shreveport at U. of Mobile, Bethany (CA) at San Diego Christian, Wayland Baptist at Texas-Brownsville, and Patten at The Master’s (Santa Clarita, CA). The Catamounts will hit the diamond to open practice in two weeks, but are continuing preparations for the 2009 season, which opens Feb. 20 with a three-game home stand against Bowling Green. Indiana names Captains for 2009 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Baseball staff has named tri-captains for the 2009 season. Seniors Chris Hervey and Joe Vicini and junior Matt Bashore will serve as captains this year.
