WACO, Texas — Baylor baseball will host its inaugural Meet the Team dinner Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in the Galloway Suite at Floyd Casey Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. CST with festivities scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Limited tickets are on sale for $25 through the Baylor baseball office, which can be reached at 254.710.3029.

The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with various head coaches around the nation. We recently had a chance to talk with Greg DiCenzo of Holy Cross who is entering his second season. His first season saw the Crusaders go 21-28 while going 11-9 in the Patriot League. Jim Morris looks to lead Miami (FL) back to Omaha

Rivals.com continues their Top 25 countdown today with the Miami (FL) Hurricanes checking in at the 23rd spot. Last year, Miami (FL) was ranked in the Top 5 in the country throughout the year and held down the number 1 spot for several weeks. The season ended with a trip to the College World Series where they went 1-2 with a victory over ACC and instate rival Florida State. The Hurricanes have heavy losses in the lineup with Yonder Alonso, Jemile Weeks, Blake Tekotte, Adan Severino, Mark Sobolewski and Dennis Raben all leaving the program. The Hurricanes pitching staff looked on paper to be the strongest part of the squad but Eric Erickson ended up coming down with an arm injury which required surgery and will miss the 2009 season. Sophomore pitcher Chris Hernandez and Junior pitcher Kyle Bellamy will have to pick up the slack. Read the rest of this entry »

Rivals Top 25 Countdown: Number 24 Oregon State

Rivals.com continues their Top 25 countdown today with Oregon State checking in at number 24. They are led by Pat Casey who won the 2006 and 2007 national championships but failed to lead the Beavers to the NCAA Tourney in 2008. He gave us candid answers about his 2009 squad and issues in College Baseball. Rivals talks about Cal State-Bakersfield and Oklahoma

Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com checks in today with two articles. The first article is about Cal State-Bakersfield’s new program. Bill Kernan has been put in charge of the program which is his first job in 13 years. He previously served as Cal-State Northridge’s head coach from 1989-1995 where he went 240-154-3 record. After the 1995 season, he resigned to take up play writing at Columbia University. He has since had seven plays produced. Kendall also starts up his Top 25 countdown with Number 25 Oklahoma Sooners. They are coming off a 36-26 record but a disappointing 9-17 record in the Big 12. Kyle Long in some more trouble

We all know about Kyle Long withdrawing from Florida State due to academic issues but news comes to light today. NBC 29 of  Charlottesville Virginia is reporting that Long was driving the wrong way on a street where he was pulled over. He failed two sobriety checks and was taken into custody. When he arrived at the police station, he took a breathalayzer test where he had a BAC of 0.10. Read the rest of this entry »

PGCrosschecker releases 2009 All-American Team

PGCrosschecker.com writer Patrick Ebert has put together his 2009 All-American Team. The players that are included on the list took part in previous Perfect Game events. He has Missouri catcher Trevor Coleman behind the plate with Rich Poythress of Georgia at first base. Kyle Seager of North Carolina and Grant Green of Southern Cal are the second base and shortstop selections respectively. Victoria Generals release Uniform for 2009 season

The Victoria Generals will be the new team in 2009 for the Texas Collegiate League. The Texas Collegiate League is made of 5 summer collegiate teams across the State of Texas. The Coppell Copperheads are located in between Dallas and Fort Worth, the McKinney Marshals are located NE of Dallas, the East Texas PumpJacks are located in Kilgore which is in the Piney Woods of East Texas, Brazos Valley Bombers are in the Bryan-College Station area, and the Victoria Generals will be located in Victoria, Texas which is located in between Houston and Corpus Christi.

Today, the Victoria Generals have released their New Uniforms for the 2009 season.

Rivals names Top Juniors in 2009 Class

Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com continues his previews of the 2009 season today as he looks at the best junior players in the country. He names UNC’s Dustin Ackley and San Diego State’s Stephen Strasburg as the top juniors. Ackley is coming off a solid sophomore season for the Tar Heels which saw him hit .417 with seven homers and 51 RBI. He had off season surgery but should be back at 100 percent once the season starts. Strasburg was the best pitcher in the country this summer lighting up radar guns with his 90+ MPH fastball and pitching in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Read the rest of this entry »
