They are led by Pat Casey who won the 2006 and 2007 national championships but failed to lead the Beavers to the NCAA Tourney in 2008. The team slipped to a 28-24 record and failed to recieve an at-large berth with an RPI of 60.
Every Sunday until the start of the season, we will be featuring the Top 5 articles from the past week. We start this week with a great interview that I did with Rich Hill of San Diego. He gave us candid answers about his 2009 squad and issues in College Baseball. The second article of the week is an article that was posted on All Things Valley League about the Top 15 hitters from the summer league. The third article of the week is from Baseball America writer Aaron Fitt who looks at a new prospal from West Virginia head coach Steven Van Zant. The fourth story of the week is Florida State freshman left handed pitcher Kyle Long withdrawing from school with academic issues. The final story of the week is our Q & A with our loyal readers asking me questions.
Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com checks in today with two articles. The first article is about Cal State-Bakersfield’s new program. Bill Kernan has been put in charge of the program which is his first job in 13 years. He previously served as Cal-State Northridge’s head coach from 1989-1995 where he went 240-154-3 record. After the 1995 season, he resigned to take up play writing at Columbia University. He has since had seven plays produced. Kendall also starts up his Top 25 countdown with Number 25 Oklahoma Sooners. They are coming off a 36-26 record but a disappointing 9-17 record in the Big 12. They were a controversial pick for the NCAA Tourney but ended up making the Regional final before losing to Arizona State.
We all know about Kyle Long withdrawing from Florida State due to academic issues but news comes to light today. NBC 29 of Charlottesville Virginia is reporting that Long was driving the wrong way on a street where he was pulled over. He failed two sobriety checks and was taken into custody. When he arrived at the police station, he took a breathalayzer test where he had a BAC of 0.10.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Samford baseball program released its 2009 schedule Thursday afternoon. The 2009 season will be Samford’s first as a member of the Southern Conference, the eighth-rated Division I baseball conference in the country.
Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com continues his previews of the 2009 season today as he looks at the best junior players in the country. He names UNC’s Dustin Ackley and San Diego State’s Stephen Strasburg as the top juniors. Ackley is coming off a solid sophomore season for the Tar Heels which saw him hit .417 with seven homers and 51 RBI. He had off season surgery but should be back at 100 percent once the season starts. Strasburg was the best pitcher in the country this summer lighting up radar guns with his 90+ MPH fastball and pitching in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
