East Texas Pump Jacks Introduce New Field General

Ben Taylor takes over as head coach of the Pump Jacks for the 2009 season
Kilgore, TX (January 15, 2009) – 365 days ago, the East Texas Pump Jacks were born. Today, the team opened its second chapter by announcing that Ben Taylor will succeed Stan Phelps as head coach for the Pump Jacks’ 2009 season.
“I am extremely, extremely excited to be a part of this organization and to be the skipper of this team,” Taylor said in a phone interview from his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. “It’s a great opportunity and it’s very special.”

Kansas Baseball Moves into New Home

The Kansas baseball team was able to move into the McCarthy Family Clubhouse Wednesday afternoon.

The Kansas baseball team officially moved into its brand new facility, the McCarthy Family Clubhouse, on Wednesday. With construction nearly complete on the building, the Jayhawks were able to utilize the locker room and state-of-the-art players’ lounge.
The clubhouse, which sits behind the dugout on the first base side of Hoglund Ballpark, contains a players’ and coaches’ locker room, a training room, a players’ lounge as well as an academic area and a cardio room for the student-athletes.

Louisiana Tech Wade Simoneaux Adds Adams to Coaching Staff

RUSTON — Louisiana Tech head baseball coach Wade Simoneaux announced Wednesday an addition to his coaching staff as Spud Adams will serve as the team’s volunteer assistant coach.
I am really excited about the opportunity Coach Simoneaux has given me, Adams said.
Adams fills the position that was held by Dr. David Szymanski who will remain on the staff as the strength and conditioning coach. Previously, Adams served two seasons as a manager of the Bulldogs.

Clemson Baseball Establishes Record With 3.07 Team GPA in Fall Semester

Junior right-handed pitcher Justin Sarratt is one of 24 Tiger baseball players to be named to the Clemson honor roll for the Fall 2008 semester.

The 2009 Clemson baseball squad established a team record with a 3.07 GPA during the fall semester of 2008, announced Wednesday by Head Coach Jack Leggett. It broke the previous record of a 3.01 GPA set in the spring semester of 2005. A total of 24 Tigers had a 3.0 GPA or higher during the fall semester, also an all-time record.

Rivals Top 25 Countdown: Number 21 UCLA

Rivals writer Kendall Rogers continues his Top 25 Countdown today with UCLA checking in at 21. The Bruins are coming off a Regional final appearance against Cal-State Fullerton but ended up eliminated by the Titans. The Bruins return a solid group of pitchers with an impact freshman Gerrit Cole stepping into the rotation after spurning a multi-million dollar deal with the New York Yankees. Andrew Oliver Case Update
The Andrew Oliver case against the NCAA finished yesterday January 13th according to court records obtained by The College Baseball Blog. The judge ended up taking the case under advisement and ordered both parties to file findings of fact and conclusions of law by January 23rd. After that, he will deliberate the case and issue an opinion in a week or two. We should see a decision at the end of January or at the beginning of February. Read the rest of this entry »
