Garrido suspended after DUI
The Austin-American Statesman is reporting that legendary coach Augie Garrido has been suspended indefinitely by the University of Texas after being stopped for a potential DUI early Saturday morning. Rivals Top 25 Countdown: Number 19 Missouri
The Missouri Tigers are the 19th best team in the country according to Kendall Rogers of Rivals. He believes that the toughest challenge that the Tigers will have to overcome is losing 2/3 of the pitching rotation. Gonzaga releases 2009 Slate

SPOKANE, Wash. – The 2009 Gonzaga University baseball schedule announced Friday includes seven teams ranked in the 2009 pre-season polls, including five squads that participated in the NCAA tournament a year ago.

Ohio State’s Justin Miller Repeats as Team Captain

Justin Miller, who is on the pre-season watch list for the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award, is the team’s best returning hitter with a .348 career average.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Justin Miller, the hot-hitting senior first baseman for the Ohio State baseball team, has been selected as a team captain for the second consecutive year by a vote of his teammates. Miller, who captained the 2008 team along with Dan DeLucia, is the sole captain of this year’s team.

Nebraska’s Home Run Club Hosts Preseason Previews

Lincoln – With spring drills set to begin in two weeks, the Husker Home Run Club is sponsoring a pair of free preseason previews. The first one will take place in Omaha this Saturday, Jan. 17, with the second event commencing in Lincoln on Jan. 24.
The Omaha event will take place at the Holiday Inn (72nd and Grover) and runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Fans at the event will be able to see the 2008 highlight tape, meet members of the 2009 Husker squad, participate in an autograph session and listen to comments from the Husker coaching staff. Juice, coffee, bagels and donuts will also be provided.

ASU Baseball Names Mike Rooney Director of Special Projects and External Affairs

Roons returns to ASU after serving as head baseball coach at Phoenix College
TEMPE, Ariz. – Mike Rooney returns to Arizona State baseball for his seventh season in the program and first as Director of Special Projects and External Affairs. Rooney was an assistant coach under Pat Murphy at ASU from 1998 to 2004. Having already spent six years in the ASU Baseball program, Rooney is one of the longest tenured members of the baseball program in school history.

Louisville Unanimous Favorite To Win BIG EAST Baseball Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louisville, the 2008 BIG EAST tournament champion, has been unanimously chosen as the favorite to win the 2009 conference championship by the 12 BIG EAST head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams. In addition, Louisville swept both 2009 preseason individual honors. Junior third baseman Chris Dominguez was honored as Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while junior Justin Marks was unanimously selected as Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
Former UCLA Baseball Player Jack Gifford Passes Away

Jack Gifford, a former UCLA baseball letterwinner and dedicated supporter of the Bruins’ baseball and golf programs, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, at his vacation home in Hawaii. Gifford played first base for the Bruins in the early 1960s and became one of the program’s most enthusiastic supporters after graduating from UCLA in 1963.
