BOBBY HALFORD

If time flies when you’re having fun, the last 23 years must have flown by in the blink of an eye for William Carey University head baseball coach Bobby Halford.

So you’ll have to forgive Halford if he can’t recall exactly how many times he’s

coached a team to a conference championship or can’t remember right off the bat the precise number of wins he’s totaled in his career.

“The competition of the game is what it’s all about for me,” Halford said. “I’ve always enjoyed just the game itself and what all goes into it. The wins and losses, that’s something I don’t put a lot into.”

See?

But just for the record, Halford, who has a career record of 798-466 as a head coach (all at William Carey), is on the verge of becoming just the third Mississippi coach in history to amass at least 800 wins with the same four-year college. The others to accomplish the feat: former Mississippi State head coach Ron Polk and ex-Jackson State coach Bob Braddy.
