FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State baseball kicks off the 2009 season with the 29th annual Golf Classic at Brighton Crest on Fri., Feb. 13. Following the golf tournament is the 22nd annual Double Play Dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the Fresno Convention Center New Exhibit Hall. Social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m.

“We have an exciting weekend planned for all who were a part of our great ride in 2008. We will begin at Brighton Crest Country Club for our annual Golf Tournament and finish the day with our Double Play Dinner at the Convention Center,” said head coach Mike Batesole. “This year’s Double Play Dinner will be extra special with our 2008 team receiving their third WAC Championship honors in a row along with their National Championship rings. We believe we won the College World Series because we had an entire Valley on our side and this is an evening to get everyone together to celebrate 2008’s successes as well as kickoff 2009.”

The dinner is an opportunity to meet the 2009 baseball team and honor the 2008 team as they are presented with their National Championship rings. The dinner program also includes a live and silent auction. Game day attire is suggested.

The dinner is $45 for Dugout Club members and $50 for nonmembers. Reservations must be made by Feb. 6. Contact Sharlene Gomes at (559)-924-3361 or 06gomes@gmail.com with any questions about the dinner or auction. For sign-ups and more information on the golf tournament please contact Stan Busch at (559)346-0320.

The weekend will conclude with alumni day on Saturday, Feb. 14, when the Alumni will gather to take on the 2009 team in the annual alumni game at 2:05 p.m. Current professional baseball players expected to attend are Justin Wilson, Erik Wetzel, Kent Sakamoto, Nick Moresi, Brian Lapin, Josh Labandeira, Christian Vitters, Clayton Allison, Brandon Burke and Justin Miller.

“We are excited that the NCAA has adjusted their position so that we can bring the Alumni Game back,” said assistant coach Matt Curtis. “We hope to see all the former `Dogs come out to smell the grass, take some swings, field some balls and exchange some stories.”
