LSU-Shreveport opens 2009 with fireworks

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots, ranked #17 by Collegiate Baseball (#10 by CBB), had batting practice at the expense of the U. of Mobile Rams (#11 by  Collegiate Baseball). They won both ends of a double-header at U. of Mobile, 14-8 and 22-1.

Senior C Brent Lavallee, of North Delta, BC, had a huge day for the Pilots. He hit five home runs and 27 RBI.

RHP John James of Tucson, a transfer from Utah, got the win in the first game, which was scheduled for seven innings. LHP Justin Ennis of Big Sandy, TX went the distance in the second game, shortened by the mercy rule to seven innings. Ennis held the Rams to three hits.

In other opening day action, Belhaven (#27 by  Collegiate Baseball) defeated Spring Hill 3-2. Texas-Brownsville and Wayland Baptist split a double-header; Texas-Brownsville won the first game 12-2, and the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-1.

Loyola-New Orleans defeated Tougaloo 19-1 (mercy-ruled after seven innings). The Master’s defeated Patten 12-1. San Diego Christian’s new coach, Jim Asper, started his career with a  double-header sweep against Bethany, 16-9 and 6-0. Eddie Pryor struck out nine in the first game. The second game was stopped after five innings due to darkness; Sergio Pinela got the shutout.

La Sierra at Concordia-Irvine was rained out.

LSU Shreveport completed the series sweep of U. of Mobile on Saturday.

The hero of Texas-Brownsville’s win on Friday was RHP Julian Moya, who allowed only three hits, struck out 12. Good story here: http://www.utbathletics.com/article/212.php
